If the carbine is in good condition, donīt change the stock, because this kinds of rifles are dissapear of argentina, and now have a collecting value, the betters ones were imported to Europe and USA, because for the type of change, were cheaps... i can find one (infantry modell) without use in U$S 750, in year 2001, but now this rifle cost here more than U$S 1.000, (original and in excellent condition, like mine), in the past you find argentine mausers till in the pet shop, but now it is difficult to find one in well conditions, the bolt action (for make another rifle), bought by the army like reposition, are sale alone in U$S 250 now....

I did get some Hornaday mfg brass from Buffalo Arms approx $23 for 50 cases
I still have to hunt up more componets yet do have quite a bit of IMR 3031
I came by a 1891 Argentine that was given to me, was sporterized awhile back still all matching #'s but it was a bush gun and show's allot of heavy field wear & tear on the outside it wears a williams receiver peep and has a very sweet feel to it and should be a awsome off hand shooter in how it mounts.

The 1909 Argentine Mausers are probably one of the most wanted Mausers. Should bring a good price. In descent condition you should not let it go for less than 500

Yes, I own and hunt with the great 7.65mm Arg Mauser. Excellent ballistic, moderate recoil, and light weight. Ammo is Hi$ but can be reloaded from mil brass that is Boxer primed. 150gr SP is great hunting load for deer. I and my son shot our first deer with it. The gun was my father's (he shot numerous deer) and he sporterized it some what and I finished it with a scope and new stock.

Had traded a Husqvarna (Lahti)M1940 hand gun for a 1909 carbine that was chamberd out to 30-06 it dident come with the carbine stock, had a very crude sporterized K98 laminated military stock, surface pitting was extensive (Costal boat gun) removed the L shaped hanger bracket (solderd) from the muzzle and refinished the finish, managed to refinish the stock to a more presentable condition, hat it for four years and accumilated several boxes of ammo but never fired it, sold it for $275. a local fella still has it.

One note : the 7.65 uses a .312?? bullet so if you chamber a 1909 to .30-06 that uses a .308 diameter bullet the 30-06 conversion would work but not well as it should.

I have removed the carbine sleeve over the barrel and glass bedded the stock.. I had it drilled and tapped for a scope two years ago. Will be working up a load next week.
Be careful. The 1891 Argintine Mauser was not 7x57 but 7.65x53. I know because I have one. That is assuming that your gun is standard and not converted. Mine is very accurate at 100yds.
You can sporterize it some by trimming off the BBL, modifying the stock, and mod the bolt for scope and adding a scope.
I have one and it's a great deer gun. Light and yet hits with great force.

Rex, .312 is what everyone says but not all use it with ease. My 1891 Arg 7.65x53 uses .311 for best accuracy and lower pressures.
If you shoot a .308 you will have very poor accuracy because the bullet will rattle down the bbl. I know because I made that mistake once.

I had a few of these but sold them about 10 years ago but I am getting another . I had some milsurp ammo that was 7.65x54 and some 7.65 Arg Norma ammo . Just lately did I realize that 7.65Arg is 7.65x53. I did not have any problems with the 7.65x54 though .My old Sierra reloading manual says you can re size 30-06 brass with the 7.65x53 die and trim it to make to make 7.65.53 cases so it is not hard to get ammo if you reload. In the bottom pic 7.65 ARG with soft point on left and right is 7.65x54 fmj .

I have an 1891 arg

I finally shot the Arg 1891 Serial # A 4476. I bought this gun out of a dress shop window in Buffalo, NY in 1991( really I did, just walking by and pow). It just looked really cool and I cleaned it and kept it till now. I was at the gun club and had a gunsmith look it over, he said go have fun. The rifle shot well and boy it was loud. I believe it is sporterized, looks like a carbine to me. I bought ammo this month (Nov 2008) for $14.99 a box of 20.
I don't plan on hunting just targets for now.

Can I put a scope on it and how hard would that be?

I have have bad luck with both the romanian steel cased ammo, and the 1950's production Yugo. What I have had great results with is the Yugo M75 Sniper ammo in 7.92. 2" groups at 100 yards, iron sights, and point of aim

Hey, I have an old but in really really good shape 7x57 Mauser from Argentina, with the letter M and numbers 4379 on the left side of the gun. It has nearly all riflings left in the barrel, and stock is in almost perfect condition, been using it for hunting open sighted currently, but I have been trying to find someone who can tap and drill it for a scope, I'm tired of missing shots 100+ yards away from the ridge top, when I can see the deer running across the ridge tops.. Make no mistake about it, every deer I have shot at, has went down hard, I shoot federal 175 Grains through it. It has been bore sighted with a laser.

So here's my dilemma, can someone come up with some info on how to tap and drill this thing for a scope, or figure out someplace close to Cookeville, TN. where I could get it done. All my attempts thus far have not worked. BTW: the bolt is bent already.

My only other option if I can't get someone to fix this for me, is to find someone to trade either a 7mm Mag(bolt) or 270(bolt) or 30 Ot 6(semi-auto) with a scope ready to go.

I'm looking for some help if you can't tell. I was offered over $700.00 from Bend of the River Gun Club 16 Years Ago, I imagine the price has risen quite a bit for one in this kind of condition.

if you have any info, suggestions please hit me up via email after posting here at:
