| Any of those are good rifles. The Vz.24 and 98/22 would likely have the best chance of having some real military service history behind it, the M48 the least likely.

| Super Moderator ![]() | The 98/22 was a great buy a few years ago. I'm not sure what you'd pay for one now. I paid $70 retail for one maybe around 2002 or so. Nowadays you'll probably pay the better part of $200 for the same thing. Conditions tend to be used and worn, but intact. Very rough and stiff in some cases. What I'd call the best buy out there these days for a shooter would be a Yugo M48. Got one for $140 or so a year ago that is in far better condition than my M98/22. May have been unfired, maybe even unissued. And that was distributor price, not secondhand.

| I saw a few 98/22s on classic arms for sale, but they were used. You have a very nice one BR. I did see an M48 model That was unissued, but someone else owned and shot a few rounds out of it, the old owner didn't even clean off all of the cosmoline so it must be a good rifle still. $220 for that one.

| This is amazing what happened today. I take my friend gun shopping, But I did the shopping in the end. I picked up an UNISSUED turkishm1902, the one that looks like a gew.98, for $100. DEAL OF THE CENTURY there guys, I don't think I could have done any better. On top of that I picked up some Isreali 8mm ball. Has anyone used this stuff? Looks like good ammo, I'm only gonna fire a few rounds of them before I go. It has bee an interesting day today.

| Unissued? I would like to hear (and see) more of the unissued Turk Mauser. a friend of mine was lucky to get one with matching serial numbers, and looked better than having been run over by a tank. Usually they have been in several wars THEN get sent to China! |

| Senior Member | Personally I love the LONG Mausers. The 1922 is a good example. MM if your going to save your pennies while doing pushups and making the grass grow, get or have you considered other mausers like: Swedish 1896 Persian 98/22 used or unissued Samco Global Arms, Inc.--Rifles Mausers are indeed an awsome piece of history, but not forgetting the Springfield 03 or 03-A3s. Camp Perry has National 03 rifle matches. and set aside funds for a Shidmt Rubin later. I hear these puppies are excellent shooters. My 98/22 Chezk, both 48 Yugos and VZ 24 anit worth a cra ud for accuracy. My 91-30 Mosin with wolf match ammo kikks butt!

| I had a couple of the Sweeds, (a 1905 & a 1920) and they were very accurate, but one day a guy came by with more $s than ¢s, and bought'em. I may get another, since I have so much brass and the loading dies. Nick |
