Odd circular pattern(1893 Turk)

My 1893 turkish mauser has a strange pattern of circle on the right side of the butt, does anybody know what that is or could be???

We need a pic to see what it is. Might be some kind of unit marking?
Is it stamped, carved, painted?
We need more info please.

And welcome to G&G!

If I am correct that circle is to help break down the bolt; although I am not sure how to use it.

Thumbs up

Yep, it's used to help disasseble the firing pin. Here is the full instruction for Mauser bolt disassembly. This stock tool is used in step 12, instead of the "block of wood" - it's always better to use the proper tool!

Collecting and Shooting the Mauser Rifle - Bolt Disassembly and Reassembly

This applies to all Mauser M98 rifles and variants, though only a few models have this tool in the stock.

BEATS THE HECK OUT OF ME! Are they indentions or are they stained or printed on it. It might have laid against something and made a chemical imprint?

Question

Ah ha! Weird wood then . . . ? Never seen anything like that on a gunstock. Oil or water spots, maybe?

Bubble Wrap

Looks Ottoman Empire bubble wrap. Does the history of the rifle possibly include tightly wrapping it in that "dented" style of real oily bubble wrap or then subjecting it to a New Orleans flood, to make the stain?
