A Good Trade

I have a Yugo M24/47 Mauser which looks great and shoots well, but my uncle has a Yugo SKS. I like the semiauto firing, and it's fun to shoot. Would it be worth it to trade even and then put a scope and mount on it for a little extra accuracy? I already have two great bolt actions and want a semi auto, but I'm not sure it is a good trade? I asked on the SKS forum too, and wanted to find out an opinion from both groups, anything you can tell me would be of serious help.

tough call. Both are great rifles, but the 7.62X39 is a little bit more expensive at least it was before I left for Lackland AFB. Haven't really kept up with rifles since I've been in the AirForce.

Depends on what you are going to use it for.
8mm is much more powerful that 7.62x39mm and easier to find....bigger bang, too.
Will bring down a lot bigger game.
(as for the scope, I only put the correct military scopes and mounts on mine...but to each his own)

If you and the guy you're trading with are both happy, It's a good deal.

The sks is a fun gun. You can go through 100s of rounds pretty quick. The recoil is pretty light, and it is an easy weapon for new shooters to learn on.

In talking to a pawn shop / gun shop owner two days ago, I was told that 7.62.39 ammo is scarce around here. He says there are shiploads sitting just off the west coast that customs hasn't let in yet. Reason unknown. That is unvarified by me. I just passed along what he said.

Even so, reloading for it is fairly cheap, and the components are easy to get.
