| Senior Member | Mauser action 22-250 So I've been thinking about doing a custom built 22-250 on a mauser action. Would a Yugo M24/47 8mm mauser be a good base to start a 22-250 conversion? It's $110 at the link below, 3/4 down the page. It says it's a M98 action... Classic Arms Inc. I'll be honest, I haven't done too terribly much research, but I figured this would be a great place to start. |

| I have done it and had a fair amount of success. The yugo action is flexible. With a good custom stock and a good bedding job this can be overcome pretty good.Heattreating to me is a must. This can be expensive. Without it there is a lot more flex. The mag doesnt feed the short cartridges good so you have to have this worked on unless you like a singleshot or possibly a 2shooter.But if you go the economical route and only restock and bed usually it will be plenty good enough for varmint hunting.I have used Adams&Bennet barrels for under $100 and gotten under 1"moa.You probably will have to have a gunsmith to install the barrel.Whatever you do,dont order a ready to install barrel from Numrich. These are reconditioned barrels and they arent ready to install. samuel. |

| Senior Member | !!!! Yeah! At4xrj, That would be a great action to build on. I'm not sure if the 24/47 action is 1/4" shorter than the standard 98s action. If it is no problem. That 22-250 cartridge is .328" shorter than the 8x57 cartridge. I checked around on the big dealers sites and the 48s, 24/47s are drying up. Even Sarco does not have any actions they tell me. Been trying to get a bud to sporterize his 48A or rebarrel it with a Wilson military contour .308 barrel. Also suggested the impressive 6mm Remington. Same length as the 8x57 cartridge. (almost .243x57) Heaver bullet. 70, 75 and 85 grain bullets. He is not very motivated. Will check with two people who own 48s, check to see if they want to part with them. Both of those rifles can't hold a consistant group to save their lives. But that is do to the barrel condition. Buying a rifle for the action, you can sell the other parts on Ebay and recoup a few dollars.

| I just finish a 22-250 on a yugo with a Brownell barrel$70.00) and a boyd's stock and trigger. Shoots well, and works nice. One thing I did do was mill off the extractor on both sides it hasn't got the "pulling power" but feeds real well. I never needed that much claw on I rifle Chamber right and polish and load "correctly" I have never had one jump the exractor. Good luck on your project.. PS the brownell barrel is 1- 10 twist the reason I pick it was for the faster twist on heavier buttets. Cheers Bill |

| Senior Member | Bill, did you have to add a spacer in the front of the trigger guard allowing for the shorter 22-250 cartridge?

| Senior Member | I'm going to the gun show this weekend. Are there any models of Mauser I should / shouldn't look for to do this project? I'm going to see what they have before ordering one online as I don't have my C&R thing yet. |

| Go ahead and get the C&R. Doesn't take that long, and only 30 bucks. Show prices tend to be much higher than what you can find on-line or in Shotgun News. If I remember correctly, the Yugo action is .1" shorter than the K98. Let us know how the project goes. I hope to get the time to do a couple myself, but right now my machines are staying too busy to play. Maybe on my next vacation? |

| Century Arms has Yugo for $69.00 with dark bore and cracked stock.. Must have C&R ......... If you are going to make a 22-250 you have no need for the barrel or the stock.. Folks, you just can't go wrong with a C&R. Bill |

| The RI1063 is a 24/47 with a straight bolt. You might want one with a bent bolt handle. There are several on there that say cracked stock. That sucks that they don't show the prices. Anyways, don't forget you might be able to sell the stock if you get one in OK condition. Good luck. PS I've been thinking about doing the same project as you except maybe .243 |

| Senior Member | I was looking at getting a bolt from that guy that does them for the mosins and mausers. I got one for my mosin and it's great quality. But it may be cheaper to get one that's bent already... Thanks for pointing that out. |

Bent or straight, you will be scoping it. The mauser bent bolt is not bent enough for scope mount anyway. If you have someone bend/forge the bolt, it might be too short for easy operation. Have a smith cut off original and weld a better looking longer handle. ![]()

| When you punch in your number for C&R on Century Arms site the prices will come up.. Buy 6 rifles and they will cut prices and if you buy over $500.00 dollars they will ship free.. With your own C&R you pay "No state tax or yellow sheet. First order you have your $30.00 fee for the C&R back.. Just can't do any better than that.. I should have gotten mine in 1968 just think of the saving and "No hassle from FFL dealer"..Bill![]() |
