Buying a mauser 98 today, makes sense?

Hi, I am new to the forum and new to hunting in general.

I would like to buy a cheap rifle to go deer hunting. I saw a mauser 98 (1940) for sale for 350$ CAN. I spoke to the guy and he said he has been using it for the last 10 years, its very precise and in excellent condition.

Could this be a good buy or would I be better off with a cheap Remington 770?

Thanks for your advice!

Just depends on the Mauser and what you want . And what has been done to the Mauser .

God bless
