| Member | k98 front sight revisited.
Remembering my earlier thread on stubborn front sight I will now see how that "dovetail' sight adjusts. It looks really embedded. I picked up a small ball type hammer, thick wood dowel a square of 1x6 wood to brace front of barrel. I will wrap rifle in sweatshirt and adjust front bracing on block tapping etc., like so. This is for adjustment on the spot in the forest (ghetto I know). A brass punch I could not find, I bought some small plumbing pipe threaded a solid brass cap on tip or maybe use a spent casing? Ok any pointers how to gently adjust this finicky front sight? It will move to the left to move grouping to the right, This happens with all rifles I get my claws on. Probably from scoliosis of the spine leaning to the left but spine issues and firing positions? A whole other fascinating thread perhaps.

A spent casing works ok if you turn it sideways and use the rim. Some of these are really tight after years of not being moved, having moisture\old cosmoline, etc under them. There are also sight pusher tools made just for this but the good ones are a bit pricey.

Use some some type of lite oil, let it soak in for a while first.

Yeah, support the base. Use brass puches and hammer. Kroil oil is good.

Now looked it over, lightly oiled and wiped. Marked the fr mount and sight w/ tip of cat whisker dipped in whiteout (yes that's right, my kitty has plenty more) good trick for drawing hair thin marks. Did a couple of test taps, no motion. I stopped don't want to smack the crap out of it. Now this is interesting, here is some original color footage of a K98k , the soldier in this film manual has well trained moves. Document says "no adjustment for windage" I hope the link comes through. Interesting clip of Mauser K98k in carefully maintained, issue condition. As I said in response to your other post - Yes the front sight blade will move - but only one direction. When you move it and then shoot it watch it closely and see how quick it will fall off! ![]() There is NO Windage adjustment on a K98k rifle! Sarge |
