Blog Entries: 6 | Yes, find a range near you and save yourself from a noise complaint. check your local laws or ask a police officer about it (of course don't tell him you shot it already). As for the basic firearm rules NRA Gun Safety Rules BTW I know this from experience.

| Your rifle is a Mauser Model 93 or 95 judging by the rear bridge and the safety. Most likely Spanish or Turk. It definistely is not a Mauser '98, as I'm sure the bolt crocks on the closing stroke. As far as shooting a rifle in city limits... are you really looking to lose you firearms? In my state is is illegal to shoot a firearm withing 500 feet of an occupied building. Occasionally we hear of someone shooting a gun withing city limits and inevitably their arms are confiscated...and rightfully so. If you are not well versed in firearm safety take an NRA safety course, soon. |

| What do you meen by crocks on the closing stroke. My dad left me a similar rifle when he died in 8mm mauser full length stock all the way down maybe 3 inches off end of barrel. It has a hole with some type of metal plug in the center of the butt I would imagine for a sling of some type. Full windage adjustable rear sight and front one moves side to side. It is Turkish has there insignia stamped all over it the saftey is at the back of bolt on bottom looks like a big thumb switch that goes left to right. Use to shoot great havent touched it since he died shoot thats been close to 25 years now. I think I'm gonna go dig it out, he bought it at woolworth a load of them in a wood drum he spent an hour sorting thru them checking rifeling, action, stock etc. And payed hold your on to your pants 45.00. I remember well I was 10 years old. Crazy the things you remember doing with the old man when its just you and him anyways just curios what crocks on closing stroke meens. |

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Either ole K75 is turning Japanese or, he meant to say "cocks on closing" :P. If you feel spring tension when you're pushing the bolt forward, it's a cock-on-closing action. If the bolt handle is harder to lift after firing but there's no resistance when pushing the bolt forward, it's a cock-on-opening.

| Toolman, You are absolutely correct in that it is meant to say cocks-on-closing, several sites do not allow the use of the first word as it has more than one meaning in the vernacular. I definitely am not turning Japanese! I am certain that the action is a '93 or '95 I have an action somewhere that I can photo to prove. I'm not sure what state you live in, but the general rule is that if you're in an area that you can hunt, then you can also fire firearms, given that you're doing so in a safe manner (proper backstop), and that your neighbors are ok with it. If your neighbors complain, but you follow these rules, you shouldn't lose your guns (but might get a nasty call from the cops). If you're within an Urban Zone (city limits), don't ever fire it again, unless it's in your house and some kamikaze shotgun wielding maniac is running at you. I'm pretty sure it's a felony and jail time would follow suit. Last edited by Bravo; 10-24-2007 at 01:19 PM. | |

I don't think anyone was around though, that rifle should shake the walls of surrounding buildings pretty good...if anyone was near by, he would probably have gotten some phone calls. | |

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | BTW, try to find a product called RB-17, it's a gel-type bore cleaner. That and some 0000 stell wool will take the rust off without removing the bluing.
