| Need Some Help
I need some help identifying this 8mm. I picked this up a number of years ago and shot 8 rounds out of it. Since then it has sat in my gun case. I think the previous owner cut down the stock to us it as a deer rifle. On the bottom of the barrell near the front site it has IA CO SAC Germany 8mm. Hopefully the picture helps. |

Looks like a GEW 98 built in 1942. I can't see the armory markings, but the markings on the ft. of the barrel are importer marks. I believe yours indicates that it was imported by InterArms, but I could be mistaken. BTW, welcome to G&G.

It's miss'in some wood all right and if it were an Argentine it would have there crest on the action. I'd dress it up with aftermarket drop in stock and go hunting with it...A.H

Thanks for the nice welcome and thanks for the input. I think the Toolman is probably the closes, but still can not pin point it. Everything I have found is leading to a GEW or Kar. If anyone has any additional information please let me know. I can take a few more pictures if anyone thinks ti will help.

you have a K98 mauser made by gustlofwerke in 1942, 8x57 mauser. yes, the stock has been cut, hurting its value. imported by interarms corp.

According to The Standard Directory of Proof Marks, ar is Mauser-Werke, Berlin-Borsigwalde. Welcome to the board. I would find a different stock for that, and bring it back to its original military configuration.

If I was able to get a stock for it and bring it back to the original config. What do you think it would be worth? Just wondering because my brother has a duplicate with full stock and bayonet.

Regardless to what you do to it, it will still be a mismatch import. These sell for anywhere from $200 to $400 depending on markings, condition and originality. An original stock and fittings will cost you $200 +/- so it isn't worth it - NOT with resale in mind. Shoot it and enjoy. Keep your eyes open and some day you might stumble onto a cheap stock.
