I just used headspace gauges on my 1893 turk , and whenever I go to close the bolt the extractor seems to get stuck for a second then the bolt fully closes(only on the go gauge) does anybody know why this would happen, also it happens on my snap-caps(I haven't used live rounds in it yet) thank you |

To headspace check a rifle the bolt should be disassembled and the extractor removed from the bolt body. Try that and you will get an accurate account of the headspace on the rifle.

what? I already got the headspace, thats not the problem, the problem IS when I load it the extractor gets stuck, so don't tell me to go to a gunsmith when you don't know what I'm asking

| You said you were using the go guage so I assumed you were still trying to check headspace.Try a live round. If it still does it polish the extractor on the inside. Are you feeding from the mag?The extractor will catch if you are putting either the guage or a live round in the chamber and forcing the extractor over the extraction ring.Sorry about the mixup. sam.

You may need to file the lip of the extractor a little.

If you checked the headspace with the extractor installed, you did not get an accurate reading.

I already said that I did the headspace w/o the extractor on , the prob. is that when I try to load it I get a snap when I try to turn the bolt to close it, It closes, but I get a strange snap, I think its that the bullet is not being fed from the magazine.

The Model '93/'95 is a cock-on-closing bolt; perhaps that has something to do with the "feeling".

Mauser actions are generaly positive feed systems where the round MUST come from the magaziane to feed properly. It" s design allows the cartrage slip up under the extractor as the bolt is pushed forward and strips the round from the magazine. You could actually get a round stuck in the chamber by hand feeding the round and then closing the bolt on it with the extraqctor forcing the round into the chamber further because the round is not properely chambered by the face of the bolt! If you had dissambled your bolt to head space, try to disassamble it again and make sure all parts are lined up proplery when reassmbled and the saftey is screwed all the way in to the poroper stop. Hope that can help. |
