Not sure. Thats what I keep thinking but have not seen another one like it. I have had the gun for 15 years just always shot the other modern guns that I have but would really like to get this thing shooting my step father left it to me when he past him and i just never shot it so i dont know much about it

It's an 1889 Belgian Mauser carbine. Unless modified, it is chambered in 7.65 Mauser. It looks to be in pretty good shape. How is the bore?

The bore seems to be in perfect shape. I guess I need to take it to a smith and measure to make sure it has not been recaliberd thanks for the help

you could slug the bore. use a pure lead round fishing sinker about the same size

Need a chamber cast to see if it's been re-chambered. I have one that has been sporterized and re-barreled in .300 Savage. Nice little deer rifle. Mine has a Ludwig Loewe action. The 7.65 is a nice deer cartridge as-is. Since it takes a .311 bullet, there are not many options to re-chamber the original barrel, which this one appears to have. Still, an inspection by a gunsmith is not a bad idea. |
