| '44 BYF - photo heavy What do I have here ? I bought this for a unrefusable price from a fella who had no idea what it was other than an "old army gun with a bayonet " and sling ! I'm thinking a late war put-together... No Russian X's , no duffle-cut. Laminated stocks , oil finish Total mismatched in numbers , only the receiver and barrel are the same. Even the bolt has 3 different numbers. Shoots great ! metal finish at 95%+ All I needed to do was to clean off years of dust n' dirt and re-oil. The bayo , incidently , is in top condition as well Stamped 42 CUL in stylized script and what appears to be a J (stylized ) on the other side. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Looks Like a KAR 98 German Mauser to me. But I may be wrong. Probably one that was reassembled post war and sold to the public with mixed parts. Looks like you got a steal if it was cheap. |

| Postwar refurb sounds right too - fine with me considering it's condition. $200 - lock , stock and bayo You'll notice 24G1 stamped on the right side...any idea as to what that represents ?

| The "byf" head stamp indicates that it was produced by Mauser Waffenfabriken. I can't remember who all in Germany was cranking out Hitler's rifle, but I do know for fact that "byf" is Mauser. Other places, including concentration camps such as Auschwitz, and other arms makers like Walther Waffenfabriken produced the rifle too. I'll dig up that info and post it some time if you're interested, but as for what you have, it is (atleast the barrel and receiver) a Mauser Kar98k produced at Mauser Waffenfabriken in Berlin in the year of 1944. As for who was responsible for it being reasenaled, I'm unsure. It's in beautiful condition though! Great steal! Have fun. Hope this helps.

| Mauser rifles with a byf code were produced at the Oberndorf factory between 1941-45 |

| Sorry, you're right, it's Mauser in Oberndorf Germany, not Berlin.
