Actually Squirrelbaster its a Mauser and the swastika is a broken cross. You probably already know this but the Natzi's took this ancient symbol and perverted it by making it the symbol of their new Third Reich. And thank God the bastards were defeated. Now I have to know what is so odd about a guy who has collected the 98K rifle that the German Natzi's used in WWII and is displaying it with the flag of the time? I have a 98K rifle with Swastikas all over it (part of the proof markings). That doesn't mean I am a Natzi - no it's just a peice of history and all that goes along with it. My brother has a couple 98K rifles along with a SS helmet and Natzi arm band even some Natzi money. He's not a Natzi or a wanabe either.

I thought the Swastika was taken from the Roman empire. I thought it was wierd to see the Swastika also but it's not my picture so not my business. I personally would have used the German Iron cross but it does make since since the rifles had been manufactured during the Hitler era.

JPWILLY. Could you please spell check my post also. I just don't want to spell anything wrong since it would give somebody a cheap shot to hit me with.

first, id like to thank jlem for comeing at this calmly, and yes im aware are the pre nazi history of the symble.. also in my view there is a big diffrence between a swatica on a peice of history ie: a kar98 or a german helmet, and what from the picture looks like a natzi flag being displayed on someones wall. to continue i think that many would find a swastica as a avitar is a little.....questionable, and the comment about never going to school, and accusation that i smoke crack is just rude and unnecessary. i was not calling you a natzi or anything just think that the use of a swastica as an avitar is a bad decision that was most likely not thought out all the way.

many people display things from a similiar group or era together. a K98 and a nazi flag go together quite well.

Exclamation

IF you know your American history you will find the swastika used very prevelently in 2 different places/cultures.
1. Many tribes of American Indians used it as a good luck symbol. You'll see it in photos of TePees and on jewelry among other places.
2. The white man also used it in the late 1800s and very early 1900s. Two examples I can think of quickly are on poker chips and best of all - as the division symbol on the 45th Inf Div patch worn on the left shoulder of the uniform in the 1920s & 30s. Gold swastika on a square red patch worn standing on one corner. In 1939, after the start of the war in Europe, this was changed to the Thunderbird - also in gold on the same red patch.
2a. The main train station in Pueblo, Colorado was built in the 1890s. The floor has many, many swastikas inlaid into the floor tiles. Still there today.
To sum it up, the nazis were only the most recent in the world to use it and also the only ones with which it has a bad conotation. Unfortunately much of the world only remember the nazi useage!
I see absolutely Nothing wrong with using that flag as a back drop for those rifles! Course there are some who would pitch a bitch about someone using a Confederate Battle flag as a back drop for a collection of Richmond muskets!
