I got my sweet new K98 in and I am very very happy with it, except for the fact that at 100 yds I can barely hit the top of the paper!! &$&%
Any easy/non-permanent fixes?
I don't want to ruin any of the original parts because ultimately I'd rather it be in nice collectable shape than shoot perfect... buuuut it would be sweet to actually hit paper.

p.s. SAME WITH MY STEYR!!
Let me know if that can be fixed or if it would be the same fix for that gun too, or what.

THANKS GUYS!!!

You need a taller front sight...

Could be your technique too. How are you using your sights? Shooting freehanded, or off a bench rest?

I was using them at a bench rest on sandbags.
I just made the front sight level with everything else.

If a taller sight is needed... how might one go about that?
haha

This is proper operation. The battle sight is probably set for a 300m zero. The rifle will shoot high at 100 yards. If the rifle was sighted for the 196 grain bullet and you are shooting 150s, it will shoot way high. You can replace the front sight with a higher one to bring the point of impact down.

You could use trigonometry to figure out what sight height you need.

Just remember, if you change ammunition, your point of impact will change.
