Any info ? Thanks

I purchased 2 Mauser actions and would like some information on them and I have some other questions as well. I would appreciate any help anyone may have. Thanks.

I have 2 - Zbrojovka Bruno A.S. VZ24 actions.

1) I think they are good actions for a custom rifle. I have the serial numbers if this would help.
Are they considered to be so ?

2) Any idea where and when these were made ?

3) Where can you find parts for them. e.g., speed lock firing pin, spring, model 70 type safety, Allen head action screws, etc., custom bottom metal in case the cartridge I put in them exceed the standard magazine length.

4) Can you safely open the action to accept (and function properly) a cartridge with a OAL loaded case length of 3.444" It will be a Wildcat cartridge, so I will need the bolt face opened up a bit as well.

I would like to "head off" any potential problems before getting started.

5) My old smith does great work, but I would actually like to shoot the completed rifle before I die of old age. Any good Smiths you can recommend would be helpful also.

Thanks for your help.

Phil i would really like to answer your question but after you jumped all over me when i asked you about the 375 being used in the tv shows i'm not sure the information would be accepted, I have been a gunsmith for about 38 years and have about as much expertise in my field as you do in yours, this is not said to ellicit an argument but to make sure that the info will be apprecaited. By the way you can look on the gunsmith thread and see some of my work.

Phil,

I have a couple of rifles built on VZ24 actions. They are as good as anything out there.

It's hard to date specific actions because serial numbers were rolled over frequently for OPSEC. Of course, some actions are date-stamped!

They were made in Brno, Czechoslovakia. Now in the Czech republic, I think.

VZ24s were produced from 1924 through WWII. After Czechoslovakia was absorbed into the Nazi Reich, the rifles looked a lot like Kar98Ks. The same basic 98 action is being produced today at the same factories as the CZ line of rifles.

Brownells can supply any gizmo you can think of for these actions. They are basically just Mauser 98s.

They will handle a cartridge of .30-06 length just fine, after a little magazine work. This includes .30-06-length magnums like the .300 Win Mag. Anything longer, I just don't know. CZ makes .375 H&H-length rifles, but I have never measured their actions.

Stay downwind.
