| Member | Not sure just what you are looking for in terms of condition. Have bought from J&G, the guns were as described (don't expect a pristine gun, expect one that went through a war and if it is a Russian capture, was refinished.) You will get a good or better shooter. Never bought from Classic Arms so can't comment. You might also check out Southern Ohio Guns (same comments as to J&G) or Empire Arms (not bargain basement but you get exactly what was described.) So, do you want a shooter, a project rifle, a collectible? |

| Registered User | bying a k98 Hi, I am from belgium, little country quickly invaded back in 1940, by the way thanks again guys to have come down here to sort us out ... I have a k98 since little, gift from my father, I believe it is a original WW2 german mauser, wanted to sell it on to buy second hunting guns (first is a M98 fo course), how much do they go for? |

| Senior Member | Welcome silvio, a K98 that is not a Russian Capture is worth alot more than one that is. Being in Belgium, yours is so more likely to be a war trophy and not processed by the Russians. Depending on condition, make and some other variables, the price could be easily near $1000. Others here may be more knowledgable in that area of German stuff than I am. |

It arrived here in about a week so shipping was fast and I spoke to them on the phone shortly before I ordered and they seemed friendly enough. I know they have them broken up into two seperate catagories, ones that the "War Eagles" have been peened, and others with the swasticas intact, I guess it all depends on which one you want and what you want it for. Just a shooter, go for the peened rifles as they are cheaper, if you want a shooter and a collection piece, spend the few extra bucks and go for the ones that have not been peened. When I ordered mine about a month ago, they were out of the capture screws and slings, but you can get those as well as a sight hood (if your K98k is a late model and requires a sight hood) and a correct repro sling through LANDSER OUTFITTERS: Landser Outfitters - Mauser Not a lot of communication with these Landser guys, but they ship fast and prices were reasonable. I hope this helps you out man... Toad P.S. I know his supply is starting to run relatively low so if you are going through Classic, I would do it sorta soon mate, just a heads up...

It really looks deeper in the picture than it is in actuality, and really, it doesn't harm it at all in my opinion. For me it just adds to the number of things to talk about on this rifle and the others like it. On the obverse of the "sanded" area, is faintly marked three Nazi war eagles in a row horizontally on the stock with inspectors numbers, so the russians picked a good area to sand, they didn't destroy the stamps at all!

| Member | depends on the company... i got my k98 from j&g and the way they explained it to me is if you want a particular year, add $10... if you want a particuar stock, add another $10, if you want a particular armory, add another $10... and so on... other places will charge anywhere between $5 and $15 (the norm is $10) and they will give you the best of 5, or the best of 10, picked out of the bunch at random. most of the time they are fairly cooporative and will look for what you want... (whether it is strong rifling, or a nice stock, or certain cartouches, etc...) |

| Senior Member | Silvio: You probably know that you will never get a good price for a rifle (or anything else) in a pawnshop. They might pay you less than half of what it is worth. My wife and I enjoyed Brussels years ago, and especially Brugge/Bruges. Her father was in Bastogne (in some city buildings) during the siege in '44. Au' revoir/tot ziens. USAF: "Go ugly early!". Warthog: One pair of eyes and hands. Last edited by Laufer; 07-18-2008 at 03:05 AM. |
