24/47, M48, M48A

I am planning on purchasing a Yugo mauser with in the year, as soon as my father gets C&R paper work and it comes thru. I've been searching the net for a Mauser. I was wondering what is the difference between these three rifles?

i'm not the most knowledgeable about these rifles other than i love mauser actions. The M24/47 was an updated of the m24, old military being refurbished i believe. the m48 is based on the k98 action, but nothing like the k98 other than it still used the 7,92X57 mm round. As for the m48a, the only one i saw was a contracted rifle to egypt in the 1950's, i kinda wish i bought then it but i already have 3 mausers, but you can never have too many guns. I know that mausers are great rifles, but i'm gonna need some more help. mooseman 684, BRG3, I need your help. you guys know more than i do, i've been away from guns too long ever since i got stationed in the UK

Not a lot of difference. I have all three. The 24/47 has a straight bolt and all the ones I've seen had walnut stocks. The M48 and M48A have bent bolt handles and I think the stock wood is Teak or Ash. The M48 has milled metal parts and the M48A metal parts are stamped. The M48s can be found in near new condition........some have not been used since being rebuilt by the armory. The triggers vary from good to terrible but can be improved by any competent gunsmith. The recoil is hard on the shoulder but can probably be tamed by a good slip on recoil pad and handloading. Just looking I can't see any differences between the actions of the Yugos and the Russian Mausers. The 24/47s can be had for less than the M48. Classic Arms has 24/47 for $129-$139 add $10 for hand select.

So far I have not seen any "M48's". They all seem to be M48A's. I called J&G since they advertise a M48/48A. The fellow on the phone (he's sold me several other types in the past) acted like he didn't know the difference or that there was. Any ideas on a place to find M48's? I like the idea of a rifle with milled parts rather than stamped but I am sure it wouldn't make a bit if difference when I shoot it.

I too have been looking at buying a 24/47...

What's the main difference between them and a Kar98k?

I haven't done a lot of research on Mausers and it'd be nice to know the differences between all of them.

From a shooters point of view.....cost. The K98 is more sought after by collectors. The 24/47 is a very affordable Mauser. Some of the RC 98s I've seen lately are from the bottom of the barrel. There are some 24/47s available in almost new condition.

I wouldn't overlook a nice M48A in search for an M48. I have both and there's no practical difference.

How many of the parts on a Kar98k would be interchangeable with a 24/47?

I'm just trying to think about what my options are here...

I could get a Mosin for around $80, or a Mauser for $150.

I already have one Mosin, and I'd like to get a Mauser next but I'm not sure what I could do with a 24/47.

Would the after market stocks and, for lack of a better word, "addons" for a Kar98k work on a 24/47?

Like scope mounts, ect?
