| Senior Member  | 300 winmag mauser I have a sporterized Mauser in 300 win with a 26 in bbl but while I want to keep it I dont want to be in a bar fight every time I shoot it. I tried loading light but still I get pounded with every trigger pull. What I would like to do is cut the bbl down and re-chamber it for something lighter or maby a short action round but the problem lies in the bolt face. The head of the case is .532 and I dont know of any round that might work or if I can get a bolt/bolt head that might work on a lighter round .308 and 06 cases are too small a diam for that bolt face. My goal is to make it into a scout rifle any sugg?
