I would like to pick up a Mauser in 7x57 at some point. I don't know much about Mausers, and I was wondering which model would I most likely find out there ?? What ballpark price should I expect ?? I want to get a nice shooter to reload for.

Swede i really like the 7x57 caliber, i have 2 at this time a 7x57 and a 7x57 Ackley Improved, it is one of the best all round calibers that i have ever shot. The most common one that you will find is one of the smalll ring mausers and they should not run more that about $150 for a good shooter. The most accurate round I have found for my 7x57 is a 120 grn ballastic tip and the AI shots the 139 bt very well. when you get one pm me and we will compare loads. steve

I only have two 7x57 Mausers. An 1895 Chileno Mauser long rifle and an 1895 Chileno Mauser carbine. The long rifle is all beat up on the wood. But the action is strong. I have shot a lot of lead through it. It is one of my favorite old rifles. Some dont like the 95's because they have a two locking lug bolt unlike the 98 which has a three lug bolt. The carbine was refinished before I got it. The wood looks great. The metal looks brand new. It does kick like an M44 Mosin though. There are some 95 Chileno Mausers rebored to 7.62x51 but when they were first on the market it was said they are not safe to shoot. Never shot mine.

Oh ya I always forget I do have a Spanish Mauser Carbine in 7x57 too. It is identical to the Chileno Mauser carbine. Except it has a different cartouch on the reciever.
