well i picked up a turk mauser a few years back, and finally did a barrel chop, scoped it, cut down the stock, and picked up a thumbhole stock. the barrel was an e-bay special, so i didnt cut origonal parts, and the stock wasnt the best. all was done with a little research, lot of worrying, and basic hand tools. well cept for the scope mount drill and tap....

I don't understand not wanting the 7x57 caliber it is one of the best cartridge's in the world, I use one for deer and have for many years with good bullets it is an EXCELLENT hunting round. steve

The 1895 is a great action yet it is not built for .35Whelan, or .22-250 pressures. It was made in 7x57, perhaps you might want to rebarrel in .257 Roberts, 6.5x55 Swede(you'll have to open the bolt face a bit) or 7x57 in a fresh barrel. They cock on closing which is not a problem, the triggers are easily modified to be light and safe....
