The 6.5x55 cartridge is a accurate cartridge. The rifle should be a good one if the action is tight. Most Swedish Mausers are in good shape. The
Swedes usually took very good care of their rifles. Value I don't know. Depends on condition and if you really want it. Good Shootin' David

About 2 months ago I bought a Swede M96 (6.5x55), excellent condition, all matching, for $325.00. I thought that was a really good deal, I've seen ones not quite as nice go up to around $360 and up.

The 6.5 cartridge is very accurate and packs a lot of punch. A Swede in good condition will be a very good shooter, they were very well made and normally very well cared for.

Hope this is helpful.

I've bought several Swedes over the past 2yrs. I've paid over $300 for each one. It all depends of course on the condition of the wood and metal. If it's in very good condition and has not been refinished I think around $300. The excellent condition ones can go for up to $500 and maybe more. Do all the serial numbers match, is the bore bright with strong rifling, are the markings on top of the receiver sharp and clear, is the stock solid with no cracks, look right behind the tang (rear part of the action) where it is attached to the stock for a crack. If it's cracked...how badly and how long is the crack? I bought one with a minor crack earlier this year and so far it hasn't cracked any more. Good luck. I think you will like an M96!

if he's honestly talking about a kimber, it no longer has anything to do with an 1896 swede, except the reciever. kimber completely rebuilt these rifles, and offered them in several calibers. for value, check out some of the online auction sites, as i dont keep up on the value of these.
