Question Headspace?

I've heard a lot about headspace. Before I buy some surplus 8mm, do I need it checked? Is it necessary to get checked only if you're going to sporterize, or is it a must before any shooting?:gangster:

Check headspace on any used rifle before you shoot it , and the Turks are used .

The chamber must be CLEAN to do this , & many surplus rifles have the barrel coated / full of grease / cosmoline . This makes it more difficult to do , before you buy it .

Listen to WyrTwister. I did, way back when, and I am real glad.

There are certainly rifles out there that will fail a headspace check, and most all Turks do not have their original bolts (making excessive headspace more likely). I would check any used rifle before firing it the first time.

Odly , of all my Mosine Nagants , only one has bad HS. And it is in terrible shape , barrel sewer pipe . Rifle is only good for parts , if that .

And some of the MN's are M91's & M91/31's . They have seen lots of use , inside ( bore ) and outside ( stock & blueing ) .
