That is a nice looking sporter. That '93 or '96 Mauser action will handle everything but magnum calibers and their actions are generally smoother than the bigger '98 actions. What caliber are we looking at here? 7mm, 6.5 Swedish, a rebarreled job with a newer caliber ... ?

To answer the question about the model, the best information I can come with from my research is that it is a Model 93 obviously sporterized. The only thing that doesn't seem to match with online references is the magazine plate. According to the websites Iv'e checked, using a bullet or other object, depressing the release button on the bottom of the magazine plate is supposed to allow it to swing open.
The release button appears to be there, but when I depress it, the magazine plate doesn't release.
Caliber is 7x57.
7x57mm is a good caliber. It is probably a Spanish Mauser or South American contract during the inter-war period (~1920-~1940). It has clean lines and is good for most large game here in North America. If you hunt, I would find a good hunting load that shoots well in it and you're set.

A common problem on Mausers. You will have to really push it to get it to release. Then take it apart and clean the cosmoline out of the spring.
