| Vz24 stock question(s)
I have a Vz24. Its stock has seen better days. I cant give a date unfortunately but the only marking, besides the mostly buffed off marking forward of the bolt, is PR 8761, and ZBROJOVKA BRNO,A.S.VZ.24. I am wanting to try and fit it into a poly stock and totally sport it out for long range shooting. I wouldn't toss the stock i have now though in case i want that classic look later on, but thats not the issue. What i want to know is, since it has a straight bolt at the moment, will a K98 bolt fit correctly? If not what could i fit into it that has a curved bolt? Thanks! |

Welcome the site. I will give my opinion and there are several here who know more than I do. I think the problem will be the head space on the rifle with different bolts. You could get the bolt bent. This involves putting the bolt in special steel blocks in a vice and heating it. Then, when it is red hot, bending the bolt over. It has a special slot in the blocks, so it is pretty much idiot proof. I have done two bolts for Mausers that way. Having a gunsmith do that is not too expensive. I think, for the cost of a bolt that fits, you could have it bent over so you can use a scope. Bolts that have been bent still look good. If you want to keep it original, a 98k bolt should fit, but the headspace might be problem. Do you want to keep it original? Is bending or re-welding the current bolt a problem? Sport it out, meaning scope and so on? If a gun smith is going to work on it, scope mounts and such, reworking the bolt shouldn't be a problem.

Your VZ24 was made during the Nazi occupation, as they made lots of 25,000 for each letter A-Y followed by R and the rest of the ser#.. Mine's a 'TRxxxx' Believe that makes it a '40. Almost wish the dang Germans had made 'em stamp the metal somewhere, these war-era girls don't have much in the way if ID.

I don't have a clue when that VZ24 was made , but.... IIRC , a VZ24 made during the Nazi occupation is a valuable historical artifact . Such a rifle can attract prices that exceed those of a K98k ( in similar condition ) that was made inside Germany. Your gun , your choices. |
