| German Mausers, unless re-marked by a later owner, have a factory code and year of manufacture there.

Not to get off topic but is J&G a good place to buy from? I've been looking at that rifle and a few others.

[QUOTE=Iron_Colonel;994379]Yes, shoots the 8mm Mauser. I have a bunch of Yugo 8mm, so it ought to shoot well out of this rifle. I was very pleased with the purchase. I'd say you could probably shoot out that far if you really wanted to. I'm not sure in ballistics of the 8mm, but it ought to be close to a .30-06. After all the .30-06 was designed after it. And Yugo alphabet is close to Russian. I don't know how close, but it looks like the Yogoslavians spoke a combination of letters from the Latin and Cyrillic alphabet. I think I'd probably leave it as it is right now. Its a pretty nice rifle. I've got a .308 Parker Hale or a 1917 Remington in .30-06 I use to hunt with during modern rifle big game season. We use .30-06 and .300 Win mag, so we've got .30-06 loaded up all the time for the -06 rifles. .30-30, 170 grain - 2200 fps / 1827 ft. lbs. (standard American loadings) 8MM Mauser, 170 grain - 2360 fps / 2102 ft. lbs. (standard American loadings) .308 Win., 150 grain - 2820 fps / 2648 ft. lbs. (standard American loadings) 8MM Mauser, 150 grain - 2880 fps / 2762 ft. lbs. (Stars & Stripes) .308 Win., 180 grain - 2620 fps / 2743 ft. lbs. (standard American loadings) 8MM Mauser, 196 grain - 2592 fps / 2924 ft. lbs. (Sellier & Bellot) .30-06, 180 grain - 2700 fps / 2915 ft. lbs. (Federal Premium, Barnes-X) 8MM Mauser, 180 grain - 2728 fps / 2974 ft. lbs. (Stars & Stripes, Barnes-X) |

| I think that's how many I've bought from them. Haven't been displeased yet. Always paid the hand select fee, though.

I've bought from them 3 times as well, and they have always been good to me. No problems. Quick shipping, but you typically have to pay that for the pistols. Better get while the getting is still good. Read the reviews they have on most items and see what other people are thinking about the item. CZ82, Nagant revolver and this 24/47. They do pretty good on price with their rifles and ammo, even after shipping.

Well, it has been about a month and a half since I purchased this one from J&G. But, not long ago I purchased a Nagant revolver. The post is around somewhere in the Mosin Nagant thread. Then my 1903, as you are well aware of. And there is a 1944 Tula M44 in the middle of it all too! Its not a matter of buying to buy, but buying when I came across a deal that I couldn't really pass up. J&G is still selling the Nagant revolvers for cheap, but the 03 and the Tula M44..... I have been looking for one of those Tula M44s for ages. Now I have filled the void. It will accompany my 1943 Izhevsk M44 in being the two rarest Russian made carbines.

Well, it's a K98 with almost all German markings scrubbed off and a Yugo crest on the receiver (you can just make out a 42 on the receiver and I included a couple small ones they missed): | |

| Better than minute of barn door, somewhat. Kind of sprays a 5" pattern at 50 yards. The barrel is really a mess, dark, pitted and worn. Paid 90 bucks for it, sight unseen from Century, several years ago. Oh well....she looks nice but she just can't cook.

| I have one that was even worse until I tried taking out the lock screws and re-adjusting the action screws. Turns out that to have the cutouts in the heads of the action screws in the right position to drive in the lock screws, the tension of the action screws was uneven. That little trick turned 5" groups at 25 yards into just over an inch. Those lock screws are really not necessary and in fact might interfere with accuracy.

Do not have hand loading knowledge or equipment. I would want instruction from somebody who knows about this - I have a proven ability to mis-interpret written instructions...this isn't something I can afford to get wrong. Will try the locking screw trick. Any excuse to tweak something then go to the range is a good thing! |
