| RC K98k sight hood .....
Hi folks. I lurk here a bit but I thought I'd ask a question. I have a 1937 Erma K98k that is a RC. The lock screws, cleaning rod and sight hood were missing. I acquired all three. The screws and rod fit fine. The hood has curved edges on the inside. I can get it on but it rocks back and forth. I also have a Yugo 27/47, with a hood. The sight base there has a groove that the hood slides into. So .... Should the replacement hood have curved edges? Should the sight base have grooves like the Yugo? Should the '37 Erma not have a hood at all? I guess that's three questions, huh? Thanks in advance |

it might just need the exact type of sight hood but if it wobbles left to right and you don't plan on taking it off just take a pair of pliers and bend the bottom inward.

some of the k98s didn't use sight hoods, if there's a groove for one like on your yugo you're all set otherwise one does not belong...or so i have been informed

Thanks ... Being spring steel it doesn't bend that easy but perhaps the judicious application of a Dremel will do it. I might see if the Yugo one works better. I bought the hood from the good folks at Numrich ( e-gunparts.com ). Part #48040A Attached is the pic from their site: |

| Well, for what it is worth, I goggled several images of 1937 Erma K98k service rifles and “none” of them had front sight hoods. If you look at photos of German troops armed with later Kar98k Mausers made at any number of facilities around Europe, they may, or may not have front sight hoods on them. I am guessing your '37 Erma K98k is to accurate specs without the hood.
