Ok, so My brother-in-law gave me a 1942 ASFA Ankara Turkish Mauser 8mm. All the serial number match and everything. It has the straight bolt not the curved one. I just have a few questions. I know its similar to the kar98, so if i buy a kar98 scope mount, will it fit? I want to put a bada** scope on it.
Also, does anyone recommend a good scope mount? If so, can I have the link. I searched a bit, but i'm not to familiar with mausers so i dont know which parts will work with other guns. Lastly, is it possible to put the curved bolt on here? Thanks in advance.
I have a Mauser CZ24 action converted into a 25.06 sporter rifle. It has a drilled and tapped scope mount and a welded on turned-down bolt. It shoots excellent. I'd steer clear of any of the screw on bolt handles as from what I've seen they are of very poor quality. Some gunsmiths have a Jig where they can heat and bend the bolt down,I've always felt the bolts looked strange when done this way as they are kind of short. You can buy scope mounts and bolt handles at World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools - BROWNELLS .
Good luck with your project.

I have a 1941 Turkish and had a gunsmith drill and tap, and put a mount on it. I have the blocks, so I heated the bolt itself and bent it over. If you acytelene tanks, it is easy. I need to redo the stock yet and put it all together. It was fifty bucks when I bought it, so if I ruined it, the rifle and bolt, I wasn't out a bunch of money. Get a gunsmith to put the mount on. Getting it bent is cheaper and easier, but getting it cut and welded is more expensive, but may look better. I have a Swedish that was cut and welded. My mount is just a weaver mount from Brownells. The choices are numerous as far as mounts go. The limit is your wallet. If you are going to use a scope with large objectives, you will need to change the safety as well. Good luck with your project and welcome to the forum. jmeck has great advice.
Just my opinion, stay away from that stock with the mount already in it. Take the time and money to do it right, the first time. You won't regret it. I have no experience with that type of stock though. Get the scope mounted directly to the receiver of the rifle. The other stock is made so that you can keep the gun original, but I think the mount is not stable enough. Just my opinion.
Yeah, I wish Some people would let me know more about this stock with the scope mount on it. It looks solid, I might just get it and see how solid she really is. lol If its super fake and cheap then I prob wont use it. It just almost seems like the best solution since the mount is permenately on the stock. IDK though...
The problem with the ATI stock is that, yes the mount is attached to the stock permanently, but the barreled action is not attached to the scope-it's mounted in a piece of plastic. Every time you fire the gun, the action attempts to exit that piece of plastic and can change it's position. There are some good scout-scope mounts out there that allow a scope to be mounted rock-solid without altering the gun. The basic Mauser action is hell for stout, but most won't match the cheapest commercial hunting rifles available today without major mods.-I hate to say it, but you'd probable be better off accuracy-wise with a secondhand Rem. 710 or 770. I love my mil-surps and have taken a lot of game with them, at ranges up to 225 yds-all one-shot kills, but you can't hide from reality. (FWIW, I think the Rem. 710\770 is the biggest piece of junk ever foisted on the gun-owners of America, but they still shoot well according to those that own them).
I have also read many reports of how the upper receiver cover with the scope rail is attached by only (close to) dry wall screws which does not work well for mounting a scope. The bottom clamp (metal band that hold the barrel to the stock strips out.
If you read around other forums some negative comments.
So you guys recommend mounting the scope to the actual gun itself? Not going with the crappy replacement stock or the reare sight replacing scope mounts?

I'd take a look at the S&K or B-Square scout mounts and a Weaver or Burris pistol scope. stay away from the Chinese-built mounts as most are sloppily designed\built and some have really soft (read easily stripped screw holes)steel.
have it drilled and tapped, then put a mount on it. Check out Brownells for all the options that you have. To me, that is the best way. The scope will be solid and steady. just what you want for long range shooting.
