Ammo question

Hey guys i have a question about some ammo out for the mausers. there is now dout that the European ammo has better loads but is there any state side ammo that is relatively good. Also i have come across the brand Wolf Gold is this a good brand too.

If you do not mind dirty ammo there are several good surplus suppliers. I usally find good deals here Discount Hunting Gear, Discount Hunting Boots, Discount Shoes, Discount Ammunition, Discount Ammo, Discount Boots, Military Surplus, Outdoor Gear At the Sportsman's Guide they have some Romainian 140 grain that is prices pretty good. They also have some full military brass loads of 196 grains. Shop around and you can ussally find the surplus on sale somewhere.

I have been using this since its cheaper than the hunting Federal and Remington 8 mm. I get mine at Cabela's same priceas above. Because it is 196gr it has a little more kick than the US hunting ammo out there. I also want to try the wolf which is cheaper yet but haven't picked any up. I don't shoot corrosive surplus. If you pick up some wolf give us a review.

wolf gold is the same headstamp as Prvi Partizan and around here costs $5 more a box but both are fine in my experience though not the most accurate in my gun

if your not looking to reload this surplus works good ,Its a little dirty but cleaning after is half the fun...PLUS they ship for a 1 penny

Ammoman had some surplus stuff I picked up a while back, but I like the S&B ammo. It is clean and stores well, if you can afford to buy it in bulk. Just to let you know, this is not match quality stuff, but most 8mm mausers are not match quality guns. I did shoot a Yugo M76 with the S&B and was able to spank the old fridge used as a target at around 800 meters, so it does deliver out to a great distance at long range with the right firearm.

American 8mm is too expensive for plinking and too anemic for any hunting job you wouldn't trust to a .30/30.

Reloading will bring it into the .308-.30/06 class.

+1+1+1 on this. After many hours of research I've found that most U.S. made 8mm ammo is about equal to a .30-30. Federal, Winchester, Hornady, and Remington are all 140gr SP @ 2100 fps and $28 per box of 20, while Privi Partisan, Sellier & Bellot and some Wolf are 196gr SP @ apprx 2600fps and usually under $20 per box of 20, and power which is equal to a .30-06 with a 180gr SP. I bought the S & B. If I had wanted a .30-30 I would have bought one.
