Czech VZ24 Mauser Ex-Sniper?

Well, for lack of a better term, I thought I'd borrow it from the MN book. The guy that sold it to me said the receiver was milled to accept scope mounts. I have been able to find a little info after some preliminary research. It wasn't the fact that it used to have a scope mounted on it as it was the $100 I paid for it that was appealing.

The bore looks to have nice and pronounced lands and grooves. It shows some use, and the bore looks pretty dark. We'll see how it turns out after I take some cleaners to it. I have found reproduction mounts at Numrich, and they are quite pricey and don't even include any mounting hardware. I'd like to find some mounts so I can scope it. If anyone has any info or ideas about that please do share. As far as finding a scope, probably too expensive but input is welcome. I don't know much about the Czech Mausers, so if anyone can say when it was made, that would also be appreciated. Would this rifle need a bent bolt to operate with a scope? Thanks in advance for any input.

Also, does anyone know how I can get the screws out that are in the stock? They are kinda like the Mosin Nagant recoil bolt, with two holes in them. I have a pair of snap ring pliers but I'm afraid it might bend them too far and ruin them if I try to unscrew them too hard.

Pesky screws

I used a brass punch and hammer the last time that I took the screws out of my MNs. I have also taken old screwdrivers and filed/dremmeled to fit the holes.

Talking

found this one at GB

it has a straight bolt...does yours? a sniper should have a bent bolt. so i can only assume the GB was rebolted at sometime.

Yea, it has a straight bolt. I guess I could find a bent bolt somewhere, or make one if I had to. But we'll see if its worth it. Maybe I make my own mounts. We'll see.

Do all of the VZ24 stocks have the sling swivel attached at the "wrist" of the stock? I think it is an odd place for one.

As per my discussion over IM with you, I_C...

I looked at the vz-24 Wikipedia Article and found that the E3-lion-37 on the receiver above your S/N of 1237 K4 stands for "BRNO arsenal"-"Czech national symbol"-"1937 production year".
