i used to use the 139 bt with 4064 powder for deer because it was the best my winchester would group. i have killed 3 deer with that load. all lung shots no tracking.
but the mountans have got just to high for a old man to hunt any more .
so i guess i will leave them to you young guys.
we dont have hogs but if i was going to i would try a 150 rn if it would group
    have fun.

Haven't deer hunted yet, but I've popped a couple squirrels and groundhogs. Got a groundhog last week at 70 yards with my Marlin 60 .22LR. Muzzleloader season comes in next week, so I'll break out the old smokepole. I've seen a few six pointers, and one I wouldn't mind taking, but no big bucks yet. We'll see how it goes, I'm looking for antlers, not meat, so I don't plan on taking a truckload of deer.

Hey thanks for the advice. I think I would be inclined to look at the Leupold because I saw one in a magazine comparing the brightness to others and the RX-1000 looks good. I'll let you know what I find when I get it. Thanks again. Mike

Hey bud, You can get a Nikon 550 rangefinder $199, it's accurate to one yard out to 550 yards. If you want some of the $500 ones you should look at Leopolds and higher end Nikons

Hi there Tack Driver. I took the factory scope off the rifle and sold it. I wanted a long range scope that would reach out there. I found one from IJK Optics 10-40x50 with illuminated reticle, red or blue. I can see an old shed from my house about 200 yds. away and zoom in on the nails on the roof. The gun is a dream to shoot. Big difference from my regular deer gun, Marlin 336 in.30-.30. No recoil pad, ouch! Had to get a lower scope mount for the gun which means another sighting in session but it'll get there in time for opening day! Can you make any recommendations for a good laser rangefinder in the $4-500.00 category?

Have you still got that Bushnell 3-9x40mm factory mounted scope on yours?

I love my 7mm-08! It can cleanly take deer past 300 yards, and won't kill your shoulder. I even shoot it from the prone position, and never have to worry about scope cuts. Mine likes the Super X 140 gr Power Points too. My 770 produces groups around an inch at 100 yards. I shot a nice 1.75 inch group at 150 yards last week.
