Sounds good to me. Let me know when y'all are heading over there!

Sounds fine by me, I've gotta get all the parts together first though. :-/

those are good mounts. the only thing i don't like about pe mounts is the height. i like to get the scope as low as possible. my m44 is apart right now so we can try both mounts on it and you can compare and see which you prefer before you spend anything. my brother just bought a luger, so when it gets here, we'll be heading back over to chabot to play with it. we can hook up again there if you want.
i did the bent bolt myself, if you want to come to this side of the bay after you get the scope and mount you want, i'll help you drill and tap and install a bent bolt. it's not hard and kind of a rewarding project.

So if I were to want to have the same mount on my 91/30 that you had on that M44? Is there any way that you could help me out? I also am wondering where you got the bent bolt.

In other words, I've abandoned the scout style setup for my 91/30 and would rather go for a POSP(?) or PE(?) style mount.

    Russian PU/PE mounts & scopes

This guy has PE mounts... I dunno if they'd be the right way to go though.

    Help? :-)

sorry. been away for a while. yeah. it's soft enough metal that it's not hard to drill and tap. also the hole spacing is the same as on the pe bases, so that was a plus. i can swap mounts or bases if i want. i did see a base to mount the pospmount as low as i did without all the work of fabbing and welding with the added benefit of not having to take as much wood out of the stock. i'll have to get my hand on one or two of those to try out. if that setup works like i think, you could switch between a high power scope on a posp mount and the 4x power pe scope and mount in just a few minutes. of course it'd have to be zeroed again, but it should be able to hit the paper at 50 without any problem to make that easier.

Yea, we'll have to go again soon. Did you drill and tap that receiver yourself for that mount?

it's a posp mount. it takes a fair bit of modification of both the stock and mount. a pe mount might be an easier choice. we'll have to get together for another shoot soon so you can see what was involved in making the posp work.

Hey John, What was the mount you were using for that (I think) M44? The one with the bent bolt and the scope right over the chamber? I got a nice 3-9x standard Tasco in trade today and I think I'll try to forgo the whole LER hassle and go with a mount like yours and a bent bolt on my 91/30...

If you would like to talk to a real expert(not one like me) look here. The Cast Bullet Association Inc. Forum Post the question and wait for ED Harris to answer it. He used to write for the NRA. The man know his chit.
