Someone important asked me the other day, “Why do you like those old bolt-action military rifles, anyway?”
First of all, I have always been a devout lover of anything with a lock, stock and barrel. It’s an engrained portion of my being, and has been since childhood. I have a picture of myself, age 3, with my cork pop-gun, out hunting my aunt’s ducks.
Secondly, growing up as the son and grandson of carpenters, and the nephew of a millworks cabinetmaker, back during the last days of hand...
