I'm a little bit worried about shooting this thing, I am right handed and left-eye dominant, which has never been a problem pistol shooting, but I haven't done much rifle shooting. When I did I shot right handed, like crap, and I'd like to learn to shoot lefty like my brain actually wants. I'll probably hurt myself with the awkwardness of lefty and the recoil of an m44. Speaking of recoil, whatever is on the barrel isn't a break, it is a piece of tubing cut to 45 degrees, I would call it a charmingly useless muzzle rise reducer(if it does anything.)
My scope plan is to use the dovetail under the rear sights and this scope:
ScStar 7x32 @ Amazon which I hear might actually allow me to shoot right handed. This is el cheapo, but realistically I am not going hunting, I am going for a long walk in the woods with friends.
Definitely getting the rubber butt pad also.
Pictures tommorow!
I shoot my Mosins left handed but with the forward mounted scout scope setup. It leaves room for my left hand to reach up and over the bolt to operate the bolt. The Mosin's straight bolt makes this even easier.

I bought an NCStar scope NcSTAR Pistolero Rifle Scope - 2-7x32 Pistol Scope / Blue / Ring FREE S&H SPB2732B. NcSTAR Pistolero Riflescopes, NcSTAR Riflescopes. with this mount Leapers AccuShot 30mm Bi-direction Integral Offset Mount. RGPMOFS43-30H4, RGWMOFS43-30H4. Leapers Accushot Riflescope Mounts, Rings & Bases, Leapers Riflescope Mounts, Rings & Bases.

i'm not sure there is a dovetail under the sight on an M44 though but do some homework as there maybe one there.

Why did you get the offset mount? To bring the scope closer in or farther out?

No dovetail, just a pin that holds a sleeve on, you have to get one of the scope mounts that replaces the rear sight setup or go an entirely different way from what I see.

S&K makes a good one that attaches to the rear sight

I brought it closer. There is room to get a stripper clip past it if you slide it a smidge forward. I have mine slid as close to my eye as possible (just enough to where a stripper clip doesn't fit. ) others have it mounted the other way where it's further away. there is also a non-offset version that some other people use.

Ok I bought this: Aim Sports Mount not realizing how incredibly crappy it is. I don't want to install it on the gun, it seems like it won't hold zero and will mar up the receiver.

I'm looking at this instead: UTG Mosin Tri-rail mount The hideous side rails come off and it mounts the same way as the S&K, by removing the rear sight spring. The S&K looks better but I don't want to spend more than I spent on the gun to put a scope on, especially when I thought I could use a dovetail like an m91. Anyone have an experience w/the UTG mount?
