| The 44s I've seen, including what I have, have a 'permanent' bayonet affixed. I've also noticed that the 38s generally are lighter colored stocks (like what Joe posted) and the 44 is a darker colored stock...why? I'm not sure. Although I suspect it has to do with the time frame when the 44s and 38s hit the scene. At any rate there is little difference between the 38 and 44 including the difference in length. The 91/30 has a detachable bayonet that won't fit on my 38. They are great rifles and sure are an attention getter at the range.

| Senior Member ![]() | All I can tell the difference is M38's have no side folding bayonet. Next month I want to get the Hungarian M44 with the bayo...been wanting this type of rifle for awhile. Theys already multiplying in my mind!

| Nice M38, Joe! Hold on tight and roll with the punch - these puppies pack a wallop. My unissued M44 has a similar "Blonde" stock - as did the whole table-full the vendor had when I bought it. Dang! Now I'm hankering to get a 38 myself, along with one of those German K98's. There goes this payday's gun money!

| Senior Member ![]() | Yup, got a hankering to buy a gun today. Headed for the gunstore, turned around twice and went home. Was afraid of spending too much money if I found a lonely AK there. Figured I hadn't used the C&R in awhile and you can't go wrong with the price...better than blowing $300-$400 bucks!

| Senior Member ![]() | Name the oldest and only rifle still in worldwide use in its original un-modified design using its originally chambered cartridge? The Mosin Nagant Rifle is the answer. since 1891 What Russian rifle did the United States use during World War 1 in training camps and to arm the National Guard? The Mosin Nagant Rifle is the answer. Name the one cartridge that has not changed since 1891 and is still a performer in comparison to the modern .308/7.62 NATO cartridge? The 7.62x54R What nations have exclusively used the .30 caliber/7.62 bullet diameter from 1891 to the present? The United States and Russia Has the Mosin Nagant ever been chambered for a different cartridge than 7.62x54Rmm? Yes, Poland, successfully barreled and chambered their surplus MN rifle's to 8x57mm in the 1920's. Note: a commercial chambering to 30/06 was attempted by the company Bannermans in the USA, this 30/06 conversion is considered unsafe today because of poor workmanship.

| Folks.......I'm afraid that our Moderator has it bad......Let us all grab our nearest Mosin and observe 7.62 seconds of silence on Joe's behalf.....(I was going to add 54 pushups to that ordeal, but decided to go eat breakfast instead!) |
