need a homemade stain

i can here because even though i sadly no longer have my 91/30, anytime i see a refinished one on here it looks amazing. cus everyone knows mosin nagant owners do it better. im looking for an easy dark stain to use on a stock of a .22 i got laying around. i wanna make it look its age so something very vintage looking like its seen its share of dirt.

used motor oil. don't laugh, I have seen it done and it looks pretty good. the guy let it soak in after applying with a rag, let it dry and coated it with tru-oil.

Fumigate it with Ammonia. With turn it almost black depending on the length of time in the container and the wood. Oak turns ebony and walnut looks like an old antique piece of furniture.

Pay heed to the safety warnings about using aqueous ammonia. It is not something to trifle with or take lightly.

I am in the process of just using truoil on an old stock I stripped and sanded. So far I have 6 coats of oil on it and it really looks good.
