My first Mosin!

Had my eye on this little beauty for about a week and I finally decided to buy it before someone else beat me to it. It was sitting there between a bunch of Mausers and 91/30's and the short barrel really caught my eye. I love carbines so I had to have it, I probably paid to much but I talked to owner of the shop down to $150. (had been $185) It's a model 44 Carbine made in 1944 and I love it. Shot it this afternoon and it shoots very well for its age and the recoil is pleasant thanks to the previous owner putting the rubber recoil pad on it.... Plus the bayonet is really cool Sorry the pics are so big, I'm not computer savvy

This was shot from my 91/30 at 100 yds, treat it well and they shoot great!

Wow, that's better than some newer model hunting rifles will shoot! I really love this little carbine, it's exactly what I had been looking for... I like the targets by the way, creative

Not a bad price at all for an M44. I sold mine for 200 about a year and a half ago.

That's good to know, I don't know much about Mosins but I knew M44's typically sell for a little more than 91/30s. I bought it from my favorite gun shop and the owner is the nicest guy you'll ever meet, so it's nice to buy from him instead of some big online website.

Thanks! I love her. And are Mosins known for having good triggers? The one on mine is so smooth that I think the previous owner did a trigger job on it. I've never shot a non-custom rifle with a trigger that smooth

You would definitely have an abnormal one then. Mine was like using bolt cutters. Though my Finn is a whole nuther story. Nice trigger on her.

Well the actual trigger looks like the stock Mosin trigger, I just can't get over how smooth it is. Better than both of my deer rifles by a long shot. And another benefit of that recoil pad is that it adds an inch or two to the length of pull. I'm 6'5" and have sasquatch length arms, so me and shorts stocks don't get along too well

Good buy IMO, have several carbines and have paid more for some and less for others.

Thanks, I'm glad I finally got a Mosin. After I shot my buddy's 91/30 I had to have one. I like the carbine even better than his, but I'll probably end up getting a 91/30 to match my carbine eventually

M44's sell for almost twice what 91/30's go for, so you got a very good deal.

$150 for an M44 in good condition? Brother, you got yourself a bargain there. Up here, M44s still in the cosmoline and looking like they never got rearsenaled are going for $225.

I'd love to have the chance to shop where you shop!

As a matter of fact, the typical Mosin Nagant has a two-stage trigger that has a l-o-o-n-g takeup before you get to the second stage and it breaks.

But a little work with a fine stone on the sear and the trigger, plus polishing the pivot pin, will give good results. The process is simple enough even I can do it; I think there is a sticky at the head of the Mosin Forum that tells how to do it. Or you can spend about $80 and buy an adjustable Timney trigger that just drops in to replace the issue trigger.

People simply don't want believe how accurate a well-maintained Mosin can be. Even wartime production Mosins are accurate to minute-of-fascist-invader fresh out of the cosmoline. Putting in an hour and a half to two hours working on the bolt, the boltway, the trigger group and free-floating the barrel often will bring your Mosin Nagant to minute of angle or near-MOA levels of accuracy. They are the best bargain in firearms in American gun shops today.

Well, I see he didn't make the noob mistake of calling his new gun a Nagant!

Good for him!
