I have a few Dunham guns and a Dunham safe. I paid $299 for the safe. It would have cost me $499 anywhere else. I am still kicking myself for not buying one of those K31 carbines.

Forest City, North Carolina, would be a great place for one of your stores. <G> Pawn shops are about the only option around here for surplus rifles.

Apply for a C & R license ($30 for 3 years) and you can buy mil-surp and old stuff, just like dealers do, from distributers.. I just bought a M38 and a M44 from InterOrdance in Monroe, NC last week. Neither rifle cost me more than $70 before shipping (which was $18 total to northern IL)..
InterOrdance is less than 90 miles from you, by the way.
Oh, and these rifles were my 17th and 18th purchased since I got my C and R early last fall.. I think I might have gun related issues..

Now, how do I sneak it in the house past the wife? I can tell her that the other two M91/30's were getting lonely and needed a new friend to play with.
I usually say "This old thing? I've had it for a while now. My buddy was just borrowing it for a pig hunt"
So far, she's only busted me once.....when I had to go buy a new safe.

Yomega, I heard on one of these boards that Dunham's won't sell these rifles (M44's, 91/30's, etc) to Illinois residents.
Is that true?

What is Dunham's policy on that?

I have not heard about this, that Illinois will not be selling the mosin nagants. Seeing as I work in a Wisconsin store, those policies would not apply to us. Unfortunitly I have not been to any of our Illinois stores, nor have I read any information about the differences in these stores. I believe that this situation might only apply to one of the stores. We have a store in Michigan that has a town ordinance against some hunting stuff, including some of the guns, and as a result, it does not have a hunting department. This might apply to one of the Illinois stores as well. This is an interesting question, and I will try to learn more, but I do not have an exact answer to tell you. I tried to find this post you talk about and I could not find it. If you could give me a link to it, then I could take a look and see if that could help.

Dunham's

I had the opportunity to be in Chambersburg, PA today and decided to check out the Dunham’s store, I had never been in one before and I heard of it first right here. For you guys out west it’s like a Big 5 sporting goods store. They had quite a few long guns, didn’t see any hand guns, I was interested in their milsurp which they had about fifteen or twenty of, mostly M91/30s, M44s, SKSs and what looked like a Steyr M95/34, all of their prices started over $100.00. Their store policy is they don’t sell to nonresidents, I didn’t ask about their policy for FFLs, but he did mention that Maryland would sell to nonresidents, I didn’t see any bulk milsurp ammo but they did have ammo for what they were selling. The store was nice and the staff were pleasant. Roy

I have found out by visiting Janesville, WI Dunhams that Wisconsin Dunham's will NOT sell to Illinois residents, even if they have have a 03FFL.

It is just their store policy!

Unfortunitly, Dunham's policy is that you need to be a resident of the state in which the store is in. I do not like this policy, but there are a lot of laws governing this type of policy as well. Another fun fact is that we just started carrying M91/30 mosin nagants with hex recievers. I already bought 2, one is a 1929 Tula, and the other is a 1932 izhevsk. Both are in awesome condition, and one has the original stock on it yet. Also, the bayonets that come with them are much better. They easily go on and off both the hex guns, and my other round reciever rifle. It seems that they just have more clearance when it was tooled at the factory. Although, our store has stopped carrying some vintage guns, such as yugo m59/66 sks, and yugo mausers. We have started carrying m95 steyrs, and the hex recievers though. Regardless, Dunham's tends to sell vintage guns at good sale prices until they run out of the them, and without warning stops sending them to stores.

Hey Yomega7 - I'm John (lowly part timer) from 123 Fairmont! I think our store is one of just a few that can sell to two different states.... We can sell to Iowa only because we are about 11 miles from the border

We just had our 91/30's on sale for $59.99!!!! I still wish I bought one, but I'm saving up a 22.

I am not sure what laws these are, and which states it applies in. All I know is that when we are taught how to sell guns, we are told not to sell to anyone from out of state, and that only a few exceptions exist. Such as if you are a store right on the boarder, then usually there are exceptions to this rule. We are also told that this is not just a Dunham's policy, and that this is actually a law. I did not see if this is a law, but that is what they tell us.

It is not a federal law - not sure about the states - each is different.
