Question Chamber polishing

What do you use to polish a chamner on a Nagant?

If it's got rust or MINOR pits in it you can take a piece of wood dowel that's small enough to fit freely in the barrel, cut a slot in one end and put a piece of emery cloth in the slot, run it thru the barrel from the breech and chuck it up in a drill and get to work. You won't remove enough metal to hurt it unless you spend an awful lot of time on it. if you just want to polish it use a piece of cloth soaked in polishing compound instead of emery cloth.

I vote for Brasso also.

When I did my 91/30, I put a shotgun swab on a piece of cleaning rod, dipped it in Brasso , and spun it with an electric drill. Did wonders for making it let go of the Czech stuff.

The reason I suggested wood dowel is I broke the threads off in an aluminun cleaning rod when I pulled back too far and caught the rifling. Dowel is cheaper.

Although I haven't tried it yet my friend has somewhat of a novel approach.

He took four-five nice brass cases that had been form fired in his M/N. He drilled through the primers and tapped the drill holes to fit the thredded end of a good steel cleaning rod and insert the rod and tightened it and then put the steel rod in a portble drill.

He got ahold of four different grit polishing compounds and he coated the cases and inserted them in the chamber, turned on the drill and lightly gound the chamer.

He then went out and shot and checked the extraction and repeated the processes until he got the chambers where he wanted them.

That is a novel approach but how did he get the compound to stay on the cases long enough to work?

rebel..as near as I can figure he put a liberal amount on the case and hoped it would stay in the chamber long enough to do the job for him.

I was there for some of the clean-up and he had a bunch in the chamber to clean out so it appeared to stay in there for the most part.

I guess sorta like keeping grease around wheel bearings.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, obviously it does. I just don't see how it adheres to slick brass enough to spin in the chamber. Going to have to try it soon as I find something that needs polishing.

With the brass being soft the polishing media should get imbedded into it.
