| Banned ![]() | Depends on what you mean by "good". Quote:
On the down side: it's steelcore, which means it can start fires in dry areas (anyone who doesn't believe that should try shooting a granite boulder about dusk; it'll look like a roman candle), and it'll probably punch straight thru a deer instead of spreading and knocking him down. Also many gun ranges ban steelcore. It's filthy; an afternoon of shooting it leaves a crust around the muzzle of my gun. It's almost certainly corrosive, but that shouldn't matter if you clean your piece each and every time you shoot it. The lacquered steel cases tend to stick on extraction, giving rise to that well-known dance step, "the Mosin Kick." That's where you lift the bolt and yank on it a few times, then plant the butt firmly and kick the living !@#$ out of the bolt handle. Polishing your chamber takes care of the problem for a lot of people, and lessens it for others. I polished mine, and the stuff will still start sticking toward the end of the session. That said, if I found a super deal I'd probably grab some, and stash it for the rainy season when I won't set the hills on fire. Your call, depending on how and where you're gonna use it. | |

I felt like this would be a good thread to resurrect(the spelling of that word always bugs me) this thread, but what would be a good way to polish the chamber. What would i use?

to polish the bore, I took a .410 gauge mop an a 6" cleaning rod, soaked it it hoppe's, put it in my drill, and let 'er rip until the mop started to smoke and disintegrate. Dont push it too far in though, you might hurt the rifling. ACR |

"FutureMarine--interesting, i think i heard of someone using windex once, but im not sure. Does anyone know anyything about using windex" Yeah, first you turn the nozzle to "on", then you spray it onto a dirty glasslike substance, and then you wipe it off in a circular motion with a clean cloth. Voila! Clean glass! No streaks! |

I cleaned my chamber using a similar method like Ruger, but I started with a chamber brush on the drill and Breakfree CLP to loosen up alot of the crud, then I went with the shotgun patch/ Cleaning rod/ Drill combo with Brasso and it polished up really nicely. Never had a sticky bolt since!
