Markings on stocks- could these be hit markings?

I was wondering if anyone elses Mil. Surplus rifles have some sort of row of markings made by (I'm guessing) the original owner?
What I mean is, on my Finn M-39 and my SKS there are makings where it looks like a soilder picked up the spend case and indented the stock, or Butt Plate with the mouth of the spent case. Making a row of rings.
Could this be some sort of comfirmed kill marks? Or hits?
Just curious if anyone elses rifles have these on them.

Thats where they are on my M-39, on the butt plate.
I wonder what the story behind this is?

well, mine is in such nice shape that i think that it wasnt issued, although it was 1942 dated(stalingrad era, if im not mistaking) it could have had an owner who took real good care of it.

that could very well be. its hard to tell the history of a rifle by just the outside.

True, a lot of the new shipment of Nagants look brand new. After they get refinished it's hard to tell, other than by bore condition.

the bore condition in mine is great, but it stilll could have had an owner in the war who took good care of it. not sure though

A lot of these old war horses have been "decorated" by their previous owners. There are numerous examples with markings, tacks, carvings, etc..
