Its on the links I posted ...The D means the Chamber was opened for the D166 Finnish Ammo ! An upside down U in a circle or a y in a circle is a Black powder proof...Yours may not have it due to being 20 years newer than my receiver!

My rear sight has the Tula hammer stamped on it and the Range Numbers have been Overstamped and the range increased to 850 meters ! Yours has been Modified to be adjustable for windage and that is probably what those stamps indicate !

Mine has those weird unknown markings "II" on the Bolt, the buttplate and somewhere else I can't remember. I wonder if it has anything to do with the forcematching of the parts they had, as my bolt has parts from 3 different arsenals! I still haven't found any blackpowder markings on it so you are probably right about it being because of the newer reciever.
My rear sight isn't the one that you can adjust windage on, as the windage one had 2 leafs with a movable piece of metal in the middle you could screw and unscrew to make minor adjustments ( wish I had it! ). Only part of it you can adjust for windage that I have found is the front sight.
I'm actually getting ready right now to go take it to the rifle range! I came across some extra money I forgot about, and it's just enough to get gas in my car to get me there! I'm bringing along my camera and some targets to sight it in on. I'll post the groups whether they are good or not.
Thanks again for the good links!
David

Oh yeah, My arsenal marking for the reciever isn't the hammer, but just a simple T which I have found as a form of marking for the Tula arsenal on some recievers. In fact, the thing has a bunch of T's stamped all over the reciever in various places.
All this makes me wanna go to the gunshow this weekend and try to pick up another Finn just so I can have more things to research! Too bad $$ is tight right now

Well, just got back from the range and the Finn shot well! From the standing position I put a nice 2 1/2 inch 5 shot group into my target at 50 yds with some '84 Polish steel core light ball ammo. Probably could have done better if I used the shooting bench ( and a heavier round! ), but I don't like using benches because I see them as unrealistic.
I only put 5 rounds through it because the rounds were kinda hard to extract, and upon inspection of the cases I could tell the chamber has some minor pitting left in it that I can hopefully polish out of it with some lapping compound.
After grouping the M28, I put it down and spent the next 3 hours splitting cinder blocks and bricks, destroying a brake rotor, and blowing up some clay pigeons that were left by other shooters with the 91/30. I swear, shooting a Mosin never gets old! Only reason I stopped was it was getting dark and I was wearing sandals, and I didn't feel like stepping on a snake after a good day at the range! Gonna try to work out the pitting by Sunday and hopefully take it back out to the range and give it a well deserved round 2!:assult:

Dave... I just went back and looked at the pics you posted and The very first picture shows the rear sight and 2 small screws, the one on the right appears to be Buggered up a bit. Those are the same as the picture on the Identification pages where the rear sight was modified and a U groove instead of a V and they altered it to Be adjustable and yours appears to be that configuration. Mine does Not have the Screws or the U groove like yours it is all one piece!!! ...AND that is not a "T" On the receiver...That is a TULA Hammer !

I'm going to a gun show tommorrow to see what I can find for Mosins if anything at all. I ordered a Finnish Cleaning kit from Tennessee gun parts today to compliment this beautiful M28.
Rich

...on the end of a cleaning-rod joint, spun with an electric drill. No chance of cutting actual metal instead of just clearing out the crud.

Seems like a respectable performance for offhand shooting. But it might be fun to bench it, just to find out what it's capable of.

you two are driving me nuts. You make me want to go out hunting for another Finn, and I'm sitting here recovering from this blasted operation. Can't even shoot the ones I have.

LoL Rich! I've had mosinitis for quite some time now, and I think I may have infected a friend of mine this last weekend. I let him shoot my Yugo M48 mauser which he didn't care for too much, and then I let him shoot my mosin 91/30... It was a battle just getting him away from it!!! He must have shot at least 200+ rounds through it, and had a nice grin on his face when he got done. "I want one of those!" were the last words he said before we left the range.
He's gonna be going to the gunshow this weekend with me, so maybe we'll end up with another few members to add to the growing Mosin family.
Sorry to hear that you can't shoot right now Troy. If I was in your shoes right now I would be going stir crazy from lack of range time. My family would have to post up a guard to keep me from sneaking out of the house with my rifles!
I hope you get better soon so you can get back to puttin holes in things!! :right: Too bad they don't make any Mosin like dart guns you can shoot indoors to kill recovery time.

Well, maybe when my budget permits me to get another collecting disease I'll catch Garanditis, but until then, it's pretty much just Mosinitis!! :right:

If I had spent the money to buy as many Garands as I have Mosins, by now my wife would have used one to club me down like a baby fur seal.
