| Range report for the 91/30 Ex Dragoon and the M38
Well, the range today was alot of fun! I decided to bench shoot my initial groups so I could see what each rifles capabilities were, using 4 rounds each @ 100 yds ( ammo used was '85 Polish Copper wash light ball ). The Ex Dragoon grouped just over an inch with no flyers!! The shot placement was about 3" high and 1" to the right. The M38 I will need to take back and regroup, as only 2 landed on the upper right corner of the paper. I was going to make some adjustments and try to group it again, but Murphy's law prevailed and it started to rain. Funny thing too, because after I had packed everthing up and was already 20 minutes on the road the rain let up and the sun came out again!! Oh well, I hope it's gonna be sunny tomorrow so I can go back and get the sights properly aligned on both rifles. I'm gonna use some heat shrink on the front sight tips of both rifles to lower my groups and hopefully get em both perfect by the end of the weekend! :right: |

Thanks Troy! I was very suprised by the Ex Dragoons performance today. It groups better than my Izzy 91/30, and it's a good shooter as well! I think I have found a rifle that I want to take hunting with me. Only thing I need now is to get a hold of some hunting ammo for it and then I will be set for next season! By the way, how's the recovery coming along? |

Of course it was work fifteen minutes, come inside and sit going "owee, owee, owee" for fifteen minutes, go out and work fifteen minutes, come in...", etc. But i got a lot done. If I had a job that wasn't physically demanding, I could be back to it in a week or two, I think. In fact, if I had a strictly desk job, I'd have been back for a while now. but the doc wants me off for about another five or six weeks. I may argue with him. He made two four-inch incisions, and he said he hates making repairs in and around scar tissue. He'd just as soon they heal right the first time... | |

An inch @100 yards, that is some good shootin'. Looks like you've found a keeper. Nick |

Very nice shooting! My own recently acquired 91/30 Hex reciever rifle is my most accurate Mosin, among seven! The later round-recievers just don't seem to shoot quite as well.

Nice group,as with the M-38 i have a problem too.Mine shot 8in. to the right and when we tried adjusting it the whole site moved.Looks like they were in a big hurry to produce. I ordered another M-38 but havent fired it yet,at least the front site has been drilled and pinned. |

I took the M38 back to the range last weekend after fixing the sight and the groups were alot closer to center, but still about 5 inches to the right and about 6 inches too high. I'm going to correct the elevation problem with some heat shrink added to the front sight post, as I've had good results with it on the past! It also makes the very tip of the sight skinnier, thus making more precise shots an option. I swear, it looks like I'm trying to balance a hair on a grain of rice when I sight in on a beer bottle at 100 yds!:target: |
