Pickin' up the M44 tomorrow!

After two weeks of waiting for my background check to come through, I'm picking up the M44 at Big tomorrow! Got some feedback from StockDoc (thanks Rick!) on how to repair a small dent/scratch in the stock, but otherwise, it's in like new condition!
Not sure how important this is, but the bolt, receiver and buttplate serial numbers all match. The barrel is in great condition, and all for $89 on sale.

I looked for my next piece, a 91/30, but it had an electro-penciled serial number on the bolt. I'm no purist, but I think I'd like it as close to original as possible without arsenal modification. They too are on sale for $89 until the 10th, so I'll be visiting the local Big's this weekend for that almost perfect warrior!

Once you shoot the M44 you will have a whole new vision of WW2 Russian combat troops, and you will become addicted to the experience.

I have found that Big 5 can be a very good source for C&R rifles. Two of my 3 M44's are from Big 5. Even though I have an 03-FFL I prefer to look at what I'm buying. The two times that I have ordered on-line I have been disappointed in the general quality.

I also have my eye on a Big 5 91/30. Fortunately we don't have to wait 10 days.

Thanks for the tip Billy, I went to the Big 5 site but couldn't find a coupon... Would you mind posting the link?

Thanks!

It doesn't seem to be there anymore. It used to be at the top of the ads when you looked at them online.

I don't know if they are doing away with them completely or just for the holiday season. I was going to use one on a Savage in 17HMR.

Southern Ohio Gun had them on special for $59.95..
I have 3 on the way.. I ponied up the extra $10 for hand pick and requested all of them to be 1950's rifles.
2 for myself and one for a buddy of mine.. I'll shoot one and stick the nicest one away for a rainy day..
When will I ever learn???

Nice group. Enjoy your rifles.

I wish there was a "BIG 5" around here.

Will do. They're scheduled to arrive Monday, but it's a work day, so unless the UPS guy arrives around lunch, I'll have to run down to UPS and pick them up after work.
My buddy has a nice M38 and I have two 91/30's, one laminated and one not.
I like the 91/30's, but I get a charge out of everytime he shoots his carbine. That extra barrel length chews up a lot of noise and muzzle flash, so I'm sure the M44 will get shot as much as the boat oars, if not more..
I'm hoping the handpick fee is worth it this time.. And for those who are kicking around spending $30 for a C and R license, don't, unless you have self control and can resist all the guns available to you.. My credit card has been smoking since I got mine..

"Farm Impliment Store" ? OK, what Company sells rifles? There are various farm machinery dealers locally, but none that sell rifles as far as I know.

Well, all 3 M44's arrived today by UPS. All I can say is SWEET!!!
All three are Izhevsk from 1948, which was the last year of manufacture, according to Soviet M44. They're all spotless, refinished, and beautiful!!!
Bores all look great. The guns are pretty well soaked in oil, with no signs of cosmoline. Bolts are all forced matched serial numbers, but other than that, they're WAY better than I expected for $60 each.
Of course I forgot to bring my digital camera home, so pictures will have to come later.
They came with slings and all the goodies, too!! Thanks again Southern Ohio Guns!!!

Very Nice, Paper!
I can even make out part of the CCCP on that circular stamp on the buttstock.
