Exclamation FYI Century recall on M44's

Have heard that there is a recall on the Century marked M44's - I have not personally received a letter from Century but some other gentlman have -- they incorrectly marked the caliber when the smacked the billboard import stamping on the side of the receiver

Mine is marked M44 RUSSIAN 7.83x10r -- well maybe I have a SUPER RARE mosin -- NOT !!

Just thought you all might want to know

I'll check mine, but I'm pretty sure they are correctly stamped.

What is the company going to do?

Mine looks exactly like that, but with the correct numbers. I wonder how they pulled that one off?

I've seen a lot of mismarked stamps on CAI's guns. I even had a M28 that they marked as a M27. Didn't they also mismark some Sks's with the wrong caliber too?

I am a Manager, and Gun expert at Dunham's Sports, and we carry the M44 rifles. Basically, it was a pretty big thing. It went un-noticed for a few weeks of stamping. Basically if the place you bought the gun from recieved the gun from like october-december, then it is mostlikely misprinted. We had several mis marked, and we sent them back. If you have one, it might pick up some extra bucks down the road, but it is not that big of a deal. Our guns were stamped with a different caliber on them, something that obviously does not exist. I believe ours were marked 7.99x63, or something very close to that. The point is, someone messed up big, and it is a very foolish mistake. Basically the letter they are sending you is just so you cannot take them to court when you stick a different caliber ammo in the gun, even if it does not exist.

Which Dunhamm's?
And for everybody else, Dunhamm's is about the only place around me where I can readily find a variety of hunting type ammo for my Mosin. The Janesville, Wis store carrys 3-4 different types, from cheap Russian stuff $12 a box) to expensive Winchester Mosin ammo ($28 a box)..
Much like the Big 5 stores in California, Dunhamm's carries a nice variety of Mil-surp guns, too..
And no, I don't have any ties to Dunhamm's, but they're one of the few sporting good stores left that sells the old stuff..
Now if I could just get them to accept my C & R license...

I work at the Grafton, Wisconsin Dunham's. And you are correct, you really cannot find some of this ammo any cheaper. I really like the 7.62x54R bundle packs of 20 rounds for 6 bucks. It is cheap, and works really good in my gun.

Dang! I don't think Big 5 even sells any milsurp ammo. Sounds like Dunham's is an OK outfit- any chance of getting some stores open in the sacramento, CA area? :-)

No, Big 5 does not sell Milsurp ammo, just the guns. They also rarely have the 7.62x54R in the Winchester white box, which is the only type they carry of that round (as far as I've seen and told to me by the manager at one store).

You're best to pick up milsurp ammo at Classic Arms, J&G, or AmmunitionToGo. An internet search will find them. You can find decent deals on Cabelas, SportsmansGuide, CheaperThanDirt, and some other small sites, such as Ammoman, but not always.
