| Catouche rich stock
I recently purchased my fifth M44 (one 1953 Romanian-sold, and two 1944's also sold leaving me with just 2, a 1947 and 1948, and now a 91/30 Tula in the mail). This new 1948 has 10 cartouche's(?) stamped in the stock including a circle CCCP, a couple of Izhevsk stamps, and some number stamps. Of all the m44's I have had so far none has had this many (in fact none) cartouches in the stock. I refinished the stock mindful of the preservation and all is well. The question is: How unusual is it to have all of these stamps in the stock? I'll post some pictures when the stock is finished and the M44 is reassembled. This is the second stock I have completely refinished and there is some beautiful wood under that crappy arsenal refinishing varnish(usually over cosmolene). |

Yup...my '48 M44 is like that too...bought it at the last gushow for $80 otd... Not counterbored...all number stamped matching...got alot of those stock markings on it....someone polyurethaned the stock though, very pretty...just not correct Receiver nice and smooth...nice craftsmanship on those postwar Mosins...

| And Now...
Here are the pictures. The CCCP with hammer and sickle is my favorite. Last edited by Geo M44; 01-27-2007 at 07:10 PM. |

My "Blonde Russky" M44 is like that - stamps all over it! Made me wonder if Boris had been hitting the vodka too much before work.
