M38 scarcity?

A few days ago, I ordered an M38. Several web sites said that they were out of stock. I ordered from SOG online. I called to confirm the order several days later and found that they are out of stock and backordered. I have only seen a few at gun shows. I almost wish I had picked up one at the last gun show I went to, since the only dealer that had them had a few that were in excellent condition, but for a bit more than I thought they should be.

I guess I will wait for the backorder to be filled. Anyone else have the same problem?

I've noticed the ones I find at shows lately are electro or lineout restamps...

Glad I got my all # stamped matching in true M38 stock awhile ago....

The ones I saw at the gun show were all matching serial numbers with original stock, too. Wish I had bought one now.

That would be great if Big 5 was all over the country. I am on the East Coast where there are no Big 5 stores within 2000 miles.

I know. I even emailed Big 5 just to see if they will ship to FFL holders. We have Dick's Sporting Goods around here, but they don't carry any old rifles like Big 5 does. I wish a local shop like Neuse Sporting Goods would do so. Only one local gun shop carries Mosins, SKS, AK-47, and other militaria surplus. I did buy the prettiest Mosin there I have ever seen. A nice tiger stripe 91/30 laminated stock and pristine metal. I paid more for it than I like, but it was just gorgeous and worth it to me.

An email from Big5:

In regards to your question, unfortunately we as a company do not participate in any FFL to FFL dealer transfers. Although this is allowed by the government, we choose not to participate. We do apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused.

The ones I saw were in quite nice (refinished) condition, with very good bores. Your experience may vary.

Get a curio and relic license. That might help.

It nevers amazes me how some companies try not to make a buck?

They just aren't that kind of company. I'm kinda surprised they still carry real firearms...

Have you read the thread? I do have one. Suppliers are out and have been for a while. I just bid on one on gunbroker.com, instead, from another C&R holder.

Easy there killer. Just trying to help. I don't see where you specifically state that you had a C&R. And I didn't know I had to review and triple fact check every statement made before I can comment.

Well, if I am ordering a rifle via an account online from SOG, checking with other suppliers, and looking to see if Big5 will ship to me, I figured it was obvious. Sorry about the lack of obviousness.

Actually, I did. Thanks for the suggestion, though. They have been good to me so far on other purchases. The one thing I hate about ordering from them, though, is that I have to pay state sales tax. They are right here in NC, so I get dinged by the state. But like I said, they have been good to me so far. It looks like I am getting one from a fellow cruffler.

I saw an M38 Mosin at a Mayhoods Sporting Goods Store , and they wanted 115$ for it. It was in excellent condition, looked brand new. Man I whish I would have picked it up. BTW my local gun store wanted 300$ for a M91/30 Mosin .

Nice Troy, and it's even got the 38 stock, not the 44 notched one. Good find. I'm hoping to pick up a 38 when Big 5 has them on sale again.
