Clean Bore

I tried everything on my Mosin to get the Bore clean,I even built a electric cleaner that did a pretty good job but to no avail, Finally I found a good barrel on Gunbroker for $8.00+shipping and now I have a good shooter.

Put 20 rounds through it today. Most of the junk i saw was gone, every 5 or six rounds, i'de boresnake it) Problem though-twice it spit powder or somethin back at me. Is this typical?
Hmmm, that does not sound good. That happened to me once a long time ago with a Finnish m91. A friend of mine was shooting the rifle and I happened to be video taping that particular shoot (I no longer have the video - sorry). I think it sounds like a headspace related issue. Have you tried other types of ammunition?

I would not shoot this rifle again until you resolve this issue!

Is it brass or steel-cased ammo? Look at the cases very carefully for any splits or cracks and also look at the necks for any black or burned ares indicating gas blowingg back towards the chamber. It's possible that the chamber is gunked up as well and not allowing a good seal to form. One other thing to look for is loose or missing primers. Let us know what you find.

Very good advice. One of my M39s has a rusted barrel. It came to the mainland after years of being in Hawaii. It wasn't taken care of or was that way. Anyway, I just shoot & shoot it. It is still pretty much on the money. These old rifles will shoot forever. They already have out lived me. I was born after WWII.

Scrubbly Bubles. About $4 a can at Publix....does a number on a bore for me. Windex is only at the range before it goes in the bag.

For a dark bore,I give it a good cleaning with a mix of Marvel Mystery Oil & Ammonia,90% oil 10% ammonia, then wash the bore with dish washing liquid and rinse with Boiling HOT water. When the bore is dry,I make a compound with water and Bon Ami Powdered Cleaner, and with repetition and many patches give the bore shine.Wash the bore again with dish washing liquid and rinse with Boiling HOT water.Dry the bore then oil it.

Shake the oil & ammonia mix before every application.

Bon Ami Cleaner- Directions, History, Uses for eco-friendly cleaner

When you went to hit < Shift > for the I in "I'll", you hit both < Shift > and < Ctrl > (Control), which when you hit Cntl + (B, I, or U) will make something bold, italicized, or underlined; same as pressing the little button up at the top-left. There's other "hot-keys" or "keyboard shortcuts", such as cut/copy/paste (Ctrl+ X, C, V), which you can search for on the internet. Most of the ones usable here are from Microsoft Word, so you can find them by searching "Microsoft Word Keyboard Shortcuts".

As for the plastic headlights, try turtlewax polishing compound. It won't be perfect, but it will be immediately-visibly better. Same goes for minor whitish corrosion on chrome bumpers and such. Just rub the stuff in with some elbow grease and wash it off with water.

Bon Ami Cleaner

Eco-Friendly Cleaning Product

Since 1886, the Bon Ami Cleaning Cake hasn't scratched yet!
Bon Ami Cleaning Cake still uses its original formulation of feldspar and soap. It contains no phosphorus, chlorine, perfume or dye which makes Bon Ami an eco-friendly cleaning product!
This all natural cleaner is great for cleaning projects all around the house.
Bon Ami Cleanser can be used to clean chrome, ceramic tiles, bathtubs, showers, sinks, aluminum, pewter, marble surfaces, un-laquered brass and copper, stainless steel, and cookware. Use it for washing wood surfaces before painting, cleaning white wall tires, tools, and much, much more!
Unlike abrasive cleaners, Bon Ami removes dirt and tarnish without putting scratches on the surface being cleaned.
Even though the Bon Ami's label warns: "Not recommended for windshields," BMW recommends using Bon Ami to clean its windshields. In "How to care for your BMW Windshield," author Steven Jay Bernstein notes that BMW windshields are made of soft safety glass and are prone to becoming scratched and pitted by road debris. The solution, Bon Ami -- which "hasn't scratched yet" for more than a century!

My barrel looks much better after using the electronic bore cleaner. It is still not bright and shiney, but I know it's reasonably clean. I am not going to go to extremes or worry because it isn't shiney. I'm goin' shootin'.

Well, I went and bought the 1/4"x3' steel rod at Home Depot and can put the rest together from stuff around the house. I just need to find time between classes, studying for classes/midterms, eating, and sleeping.

...but, of course, I have to make time for you guys.
