| Member | I love my mosins. Kick? my 10 year old daughter shoots 'em with no complaints. I'll have to get pics downloaded. My favorite is my M38 with a mojo sight front and rear and a sling that looks like it was made from Nazi skin. With S&B ammo you get one ragged hole at 50 yds. I use it for deer and bear. Wish it had a more still hunting friendly safety though. "Das Ve Danya" means "who needs to use the safety anyway" |

And, it's essentially the same motion as cocking an AR15, if done right; just with a little clockwise twist on the backswing.

Trader Rating: (1) | I do the same thing at the range, because the rules clearly state "before going down range, leave the action open and the gun unloaded" Besides it's easier to leave the bolt open and push a stripper clip in, than use the safety.

| Registered User | Shooting my first Mosin. Now have 3 more. Noticed some pics with a scout scopes. I'm planning on putting one on an M-38. I can see the name on one of the mounts, but not the other. Come back with how you like them "billy and Troy 2000". I hated the safety on the Mosin, but found out how they are supposed to be used and now love them. Let the butt of the rifle push up against the inside elbow of your arm. At the same time, use the hand of that same arm to twist the safety on or off. The inside of the arm gives your hand all the leverage you need to make the simple wrist twist. And when you're hunting the safety doesn't make a sound. Last edited by Vegas Ed; 06-15-2007 at 06:36 PM. Reason: Found some overlooked items on the thread. |

| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | I really like the scout mount setup, Ed Quote:
The trouble with mine to begin with was that the rifle kept jumping out from under it; by the time I went through a couple boxes of ammo, the mount would be sliding off the front of the sight base. I tightened the screws down as hard as I thought I could get away with without stripping them, and the mount slid anyway. If you look closely at the pics, you'll see how I fixed the problem. I shoved one of the pins back in place that originally held the sight, and notched the scout base with a small round file to fit over it. Not an incredibly elegant fix, but nothing has moved for a couple of years now. I understand there's a better-quality mount out there that doesn't move. Matter of fact, if I remember right someone posted about it last year on this forum.

Trader Rating: (1) | I've been experminting with an ler scope on my m91/30. The other day I noticed that the rear sight is mounted on a dovetail, so I wondered if I could use 3/8ths rings to mount an ler scope I've had laying around. Well whadda you know it worked, now all I need is some Threadlock 266 to put on the contact points so the scope will have less of a chance of drifting foward when shooting. ![]() ![]()

Trader Rating: (1) | When I was putting it on I was constantly thinking "this is retardedly simple it won't work" well I'll find out when I take it to the range.
