Hi All,

Someone on one of the many boards I frequent asked for a picture of the bore when I got through with it. I do not remember what board it was, so I'll just post on all of them.

While this bore looks bad, remember I have it under extreme magnification and the pitting cannot be seen with the naked eye. While not target grade, I consider this to be acceptable and it certainly is accurate. The picture was taken after two days of soaking followed by "boilouts," before oiling.

It's not the "new" bore I thought it might be once I stripped it of its copper fouling, but it doesn't seem to matter with open sights. I'm playing with the idea of 'scoping it and I may have issues then. Until and unless I decide to do this however, I'm happy.

I had the chamber checked today as some were concerned about a loose chamber. While it is a bit loose, it is in tolerance and should shoot any quality stuff just fine. This Russian stuff is the only crap giving problems because it's short.

Joshua it looks good to me now go shoot it...If Windex is good at cleaning up after shooting corrosive ammo then Top Job cleaner would maybe, be better because it has more ammonia in it...A.H

I spent about an hour with a professor at college last night figuring out that ammonia does nothing to the salts.

KCl + NH3 = nothing. No neutralization.

Since all my professors are gun totin' conservatives, I could tell him what this was all about. I suggested that the Windex probably just then acts as any other detergent mixture, and likely doesn't need the ammonia to be effective. He agreed.

I'll shoot more as soon as I find some good ammunition. The Russian stuff is overpressure and I'm low on the Hungarian yellow tip from the '50s that this rifle loves. I just need to find more.

Thanks,

i agree that ammonia does nothing to the salts. the key is to flush out the bore. plain ol water will work fine, then clean as normal.
