New members with 91/30

I've had the 91/30 for about 2 years and LOVE it. I've just bought a LER scope for it.. 2.5 x 30 illuminated.

I read on here that the aluminum scope rings are junk and worried that I need additional parts? Also what is the dovetail mounting ring/method?

Mosin 91/30 Scout Rifle Mount + 2.5x30 Lit Scope Combo - (eBay item 250193042621 end time Dec-28-07 10:56:19 PST)

Thanks for any help and any mounting tips!

You got an NC Star LER scope (per pic). Some people are happy with it, some have complained of moving reticle that won't hold zero. The best thing to do is put it on and shoot to see how it holds. I have scout scope mount in my M-39 but it was Darrell's. I anchored it to the rear sight base with a piece of metal drilled and tapped and inserted where the rear spring was then drilled a hole through the mount so I can put a screw to hold the scope mount steady. This is a step that may not be needed but gives me reassurance that the mount would not move on hard recoil. I haven't used or seen the ones you have in person. Don't know if they bend when you tighten the screws. But just make sure there's no play.
Dovetail mount is the ones usually seen in airguns. The rail is narrower, 3/8" in width, so the clamps on the rings are also of the same size.
Aluminum rings? Some are junk, some are top-end. Try it first. I don't like the nylon thingy inside the rings. Watch if the scope is moving/sliding every couple of shots or so. Make a mark or something as referrence. I have Warne (steel) rings on mine.

Hehe, just put it on. Haven't shot it yet so we'll see how the mount holds up. crossing fingers.

no drill no tap no nothing.
just put it on there.
there is a dovetail on the 91-30
use millet angle lock rings so you can adjust windage.

remove the rear sight blade and have fun!

Hey billy, what model of Barska scope is that?

Edit: nevermind, looks like the AC10840 or AC10842 seen here: www.BARSKA.com

Personally, I'd want at least a 4x scope and preferably something that gets up to around 10x for the capability of the long range cartridge.

Actually thats my rifle.
oh, once I sighted the Barska scope in it was quite easy to put the bullets where I wanted them, until the cheap aluminum rings gave out under the recoil.

Ick... that kinda sucks, Zephri.

Hopefully no damage to either the scope or the gun....

Yeah, Barska does suck I've got one on my sks that gave out. but I temporarily fixed it till I can put a posp scope on it. As for the mosin it wasen't damaged at all, the steel dovetail bit in to the soft rings causing the scope to slide foward (This is why steel rings are necessary of course everyone knows that). That ler scope has been good to me, so far.

Dang it billy and Zephri... don't tell me that!!!

I asked for (and know I'm getting) a Barska 6.5-20x50mm AO Varmint scope for Christmas. I'm thinking of putting it either on my CETME or my AES-10 as the 3.6" eye relief won't work too well with any of my 3 mosins or my GLOCK 27 (*chuckle*).... But it would look kinda funny on that "baby GLOCK", since I think it's about 150% the length of the gun.

I still have to figure out what kind of mount I want to go with on both the CETME and the AES-10. STANAG claw mount or TAPCO "SWAT" clamp mount for the CETME; low-rise or high-rise rail mount for the AES-10 (no way I'll use a dust cover mount, since they're loosely-fitted to the gun and won't hold a zero).
